how did you get your first teaching job?

I am currently about to graduate with my second college degree and want to begin teaching this Fall. I have completed the state required exams as well as my teacher's certification prep courses. I do a lot of networking and talk to anyone I can that may be able to help me but so far I am still a little nervous about being able to land a job. I hate sending out resumes blindly and find job fairs fruitless. How can I get a teaching position with little to no experience? I have a strong educational background but no classroom experience. i know that I have to start somewhere and many teachers are first year with no experience. How did you land your first teaching job with little to no experience? What tips can you give to help me find a job?

If you think about it, they might actually be more likely to hire a teacher with less experience, since they would have to pay them less. When I got my job, I just made sure I let them know how competent I was with history, how prepared I was, and make sure to focus alot on your strengths. Other than that, theres nothing you can do. Before you get experience you have to be able to get your first job! Everybody goes through it!

If you cant find a teaching job right away look into teaching English in China. That's what i did when i was 22 and just graduated. I couldn't find any work in the states and wanted to boost my resume so I went and taught English in China. I went through JourneyEast.org. They set me up with a free apartment, i worked 18 hours a week and made 7,000 RMB a month. I worked there for a full year and came back to the states.

Honestly, the experience was awesome and having JourneyEast with me every step of the way was great. When i got back into the states I landed a great teaching position in NJ where i worked for 10+ years.

Don't settle for some shitty job just because you can't find teaching jobs. There are always alternatives and teaching in China to boost a resume is a great one.
