When will the Pens realize that Chris Kunitz is a cancer?

I have been saying Kunitz is terrible for sometime now and you so called Pens fans make stupid excuses as to why he is good. All I have to say is that after this post season we now have to realize that Kunitz is a bum and must be dropped or traded. He frequently passes it to the other team and misses on shots when there is no one around him.

What has he done for the Pens besides being a useless pile of crap?

Update:

Killswitch that is a typical Kunitz loving comment from you. Open up your damn eyes and realize that because of the way Kunitz was playing this series he caused us to let up goals. And that was clearly shown tonight. It is like he has no idea what he is doing out there. The Pens could easily bring up a left winger from the minors to replace Kunitz and he would play far better than him. Of course a 90 year old woman with sever arthritis could play better than Kunitz.

Update 2:

I'm from DC - If you had actually watched the game or any game from this series you would know that Kunitz single handily let in a few goals, especially in game 7. When you pass the puck right to the opposing player when you have no pressure around you, then you know you are a terrible player.

Update 3:

Killswitch - First off how is getting rid of a terrible player like Kunitz tearing the team apart? It is one player who had 32 points in the regular season. Anyone could do that when playing the whole year with Crosby. I guess he does fit our system. If our new system is passing the puck away to the other team so they can score a goal.

While I do agree with you that Fedotenko is a bum, how can you say Ponikarovsky should not be resigned? He was with a terrible team for years. He hasn't played a big game since 2004 before coming to the Pens. Of course he is going to be cold. Give him a whole season with Crosby or Malkin and he easily gets 60 to 70 points.

Update 4:

O so instead of 32 he would of had 35 to 40 points. And like I said anyone could do that when playing with Crosby.

Apparently you can't read or just skipped what I said. Poni has been playing with a horrible team and has not play a meaningful game since 2004 before coming to the Pens. Give him an entire season with Crosby or Malkin and he easily gets 60 to 70 points.

Update 5:

Guerin was with the Islanders for less than 2 whole seasons. How is that anything like what Poni had to go through? And if you released Kunitz you could resign Poni and sign another young player from the minors or else where.

Update 6:

Well if he does want 3.5 to 4 million then wouldn't try to get him. As for keeping Kunitz that is a bad idea. He has 2 more years left on his contract. That is 3.8 million next season and 4 million the season after. We could easily trade him for a draft pick then sign a free agent or trade him for a young player who could help us this year. Getting a winger for Malkin to play with is the bigger problem. You can stick anyone with Crosby and he will make then better. Just look at Kunitz.

Update 7:

Well I would keep Poni to play with Crosby. As for a winger playing with Malkin that is tough because you won't have to much money to work with. Me personally I would bring someone up from the minors to play with him.

Update 8:

Erica - How many of those other players giveaways went for a goal.? Tonight Kunitz had more than 1. Also you will notice that is not the only reason he should be gone. There have been many times in this series at important times where Kunitz was wide open and he completely whiffed out of the shot(he looked like a 3 year old out there). Games that we lost by 1 goal. If Poni or Fedotenko had done that you so called "real" Pens fans would be screaming because those are the players the sportscasters in Pittsburgh always bash first.

Update 9:

The Pens should not resign Gonchar. While he may have a few solid years left in him he is just not worth the price tag. Letang is good and it was smart keeping him. What was stupid was not trading Gonchar for something at the deadline. Now they can't get anything for him.

As for the Wings Ralph the only thing they know what to do is signing older players and giving there players insane amounts of money that will haunt them in the future.

The Pens are going to have some big changes this off-season. Gonchar is gone and I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't resign Eaton. Fedotenko is gone for sure while I would like to see Poni come back I don't think they will bring him back.

Kunitz wasn't the problem tonight. Or any night.

If anything, we need to worry about Sid's OTHER line-mate. Sure, Kunitz might be a bit overpaid, but it's nothing out of the world. Only by a few thousand.

It's obvious we need to sign another Defensive-defenseman, to form an actual "shutdown" pair again. And we need to either sign or trade for a top-6 winger and make him our winger for good! No more plugging in and out wingers. Shero's luck must of run out on getting those. (Fedotenko for the 2nd year didn't work, Ponikarovsky, etc etc.)

Kunitz is the least of our problems on the wings. Period.

Edit - Or maybe the fact I realize losing a series isn't the end of the world? Oh sure, let's tear apart this whole roster. Everybody. Just because they didn't reach the Stanley Cup Finals for a 3rd straight year. How dare they not do so?

By the way, Kunitz was playing injured for most of the year. I wouldn't be surprised if he was playing injured during these playoffs too. Yet, he was still a factor. He was physical, and looked like one of the fastest guys on the ice tonight. Kunitz fits our system so well, and it would just be a mistake for us to trade him. But I guess I'll take your route, and depend on guys like Fedotenko or Ponikarovsky, or hell even WBS guys handle a Crosby pass. No worries, right?

Source(s): 32 Points for Kunitz... you do know that's because he only played 50 games this year, right? If he played 82 games, he would of scored 52 points this year. Which is Kunitz-like. He's only hit the 60-point mark ONCE. Your expectations for Kunitz must be awfully high for a guy that makes 3.750 You want to re-sign Poni, yet want to get rid of Kunitz? Yeah scratching him for 2 games in this series. That sounds like a player that's been fitting in for us for sure. Playing with a cold-team is no excuse! For example Billy Guerin was with the LAST-place Islanders last year, yet he helped us win the Stanley Cup. That theory is pathetic. Poni is a good player, but he just didn't help us one bit. I don't want him back at the price-tag he wants anyway. Look, I respect your opinion. But I strongly, and I mean, STRONGLY disagree. Poni is not the player we wanted to him to be when we traded for him. He reportedly wants somewhere in the 3.5-4 million range. I'd accept him back at the price of 2.5, but nothing more than that. And he's not going to get that type of contract, and deserves better. I do not want to re-sign Kunitz after his current contract is up, but really he's the best of what we have right now. We need to worry about getting another winger to play along Sid or Malkin. Not subtract the best winger we have. You can go ahead and place the blame on Kunitz for the loss tonight, and other Ls as well. But in the end, we didn't capitalize, and they did. ------------------ Kunitz is still putting up Kunitz-like numbers, even with Sid. But, okay, I'll roll the dice. Hypothetical question. We trade Kunitz for a 2nd rounder, I don't know. Come UFA, who would you like to sign to be a winger to Sid. Then who would you sign to be a winger to Malkin. You have 6.5-7 million to spend on two wingers. This'll be interesting.

suitable now...toss up. The geese initiate the rebuilding technique after the mess left with the aid of a undeniable former GM and score what ought to be an elite defenseman. those are harder to discover than scoring wingers , Kunitz ought to fill a precise 6 fit in Pitts yet seems a extra useful in good shape as a third line winger in keeping along with his play the previous few months. Whitney had the burden of the international on his shoulders with the depleted Pens protection and well-being issues of his very own however the baby can play and has buckets of skills. right that's the aptitude rub that ought to swing this the way of the Pens. Tangradi is a extensive baby who ought to very somewhat transition right into a precise capability forward who happens to be a very stable skater. youthful massive childrens who skate nicely are additionally a frustrating discover so at last this would finally end up falling interior the Pens desire if Kunitz can produce 20-25 purpose campaigns and Tangradi faucets that enormus skills. yet dont sense too undesirable for the geese, they get a precise youthful d-guy who can produce at the two ends of the ice and could fill what appears like a considerable void on the blueline for the geese (quite if Pronger gets moved).

this isnt right. chris kunitz definately wasnt the reason why the pens lost. not by a long shot. yes, he chose a bad game to have 2 giveaways but he also had a goal to make up for it. and obviously you dont know what gonch has done for this team. watching him during game 7 was very frustrating. he looked like he wanted the hell out of there. but he has done more for the pens than a lot of other guys have.

yes, it was smart keeping kris letang. he's very promising and will be the 'go to' guy in the future.

as i said, kunitz isnt the problem. the answers above me seem to agree. fedotenko probably will be traded because he didnt produce enough. alex gilogoski, though, is someone i dont know about. everyone seems to dislike him, but i havent seen him do anything game risking in a while.

i like eaton AND orpic but i think one of thems gonna go. orpic's physical but he doesnt produce offensively and lately he's been too caught up in mugging the opposition instead of doing his job.

anyways, dont play the blame game. it gets ugly. its a team effort. and if you wanna blame kunitz then you might as well blame the next guy too.

If anyone bothered looking at Kunitz's contract, no one would bother arguing with this question. If the Penguins resign Ponikarovsky or Fedotenko, they may as well kiss any hopes of a Stanley Cup final right out the window.

Resigning Letang over Gonchar was bad enough. Let's not make matters worse.

Source(s): Erica -- I agree with you. Kunitz is not a bad hockey player. Kunitz didn't play horribly. But I can see where this "whipping boy" tag would come from considering we are paying him a little over 4 million I believe to be injury prone and put up sub par numbers. Remember, Sergei Gonchar is asking for 5 million. Kunitz and his potential are making 4 million. I do not see the logic in it. You know... it's never to late to be a Red Wings fan. Our management would never pay Letang over Gonchar =)

Kunitz constantly "passes" to the other team? So he should be leading in the "giveaways" stat, right?: http://www.nhl.com/ice/playerstats.htm?fetchKey=20...

OH WAIT... He's not. Letang, Gonchar, Crosby, Malkin, and Goligoski are all ahead of him. TRADE THEM! TRADE THEM ALL!!!! <---sarcasm

Your reactionary blabbering gives Pens fans a bad name.

ADD: Uh? You don't know me, so let's not assume I only know what I hear Pittsburgh sportscasters say. I'm on the internet right now, so I have access to a wealth of different opinions from all over the world. My horizons are broad, thank you.

Source(s): Penguins fan. Pittsburgh native & resident. RALPH - He's not the only one. Kunitz is like the new whipping boy for a bunch of Pens fans. Kill me. And stop reminding Killswitch and I that Gonchar has most likely played his last game for the Pens. It makes us die a little inside. :(

From what I saw it was Gonchar's fault on at least 2 goals. He's good when it comes to PP, but as a defenceman... He's like Mike Green - his highlights consist of goals, not defensive plays.

Yeah you also forgot Alex Gologoski, get them the hell outta there.

  • you forgot about brooks orpik also. kunitz is clearly a great player for the opposing team. the other nhl teams will probably pay his salary for us just so they can get easy wins. BROOKS ORPIK IS A RAPIST!
