Why do people want programs and services but little or no taxes?

I dont understand how people want all these programs like police, education and ambulance but they dont want to pay for it. If they privatize it still costs roughly the same. You dont have to chew me out I would just like to know the thinking because if it was up to me then great! I would love 0% taxes and keep all my money but it isnt realistic considering we need public services.

Update:

Thats true, taxes shouldnt go up but they should also not go down because now there are more people to serve. No?

Update 2:

So then are we wanting to go back to the days of the pioneers? If we love America and Americans why are people so reluctant to take care of each other? There are hundreds of people I have spoken to that dont even know their neighbors. I dont understand why Americans are becoming more solitary. Is this necessary?

Update 3:

Im not inferring any greed, you are inferring I am inferring greed which in sense makes you the wrong one here because I know you were thinking I was thinking something I was not thinking. Like I said I simply want to understand. With that said, I see how people who make a lot of money would be upset because the richer pickup the tab. I still think of other countries and the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. I dont see how that type of model will help us. Especially with something like a flat tax. 10% of someone making $20,000 and 10% of someone making $200,000 is a huge difference. People are willing to donate but only to get a refund so in sense they really are not willing to donate. I dont think its greed and you dont have to share all your wealth but $180,000 is a lot of money.

I agree we are a family and we should take care of each other. The person that accused of inferring greed (Mr. Reliable?) lol! , read the post! He said he wanted to understand not he wanted to understand greedy people. What if I inferred you were greedy? Rich people have money poor people dont. Thats obvious, if we tax the poor the same percent as the rich the rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer. Thus crime will skyrocket! Where will they go? Rich peoples houses... I am not saying poor people are crooks but people, ALL people act in desperation. I would hate to see the Land of the Free become a Sierra Leone or Nigeria. Gov. does need to spend wisely however no pork spending.

Actually, the title on your question hit the nail on the head, but not in the way I'm sure you're seeing it.

There are more people than ever in the history of this country who are benefitting from the services you're describing, who pay little or no net tax when it all shakes out.

The people taking the services but paying nothing for those services are the ones who want services without paying for them.

Your question was obviously directed at those who do pay the entire bill for everybody else. Why demonize those who are pulling the cart by inferring they're greedy?

Why would people who are being given services without paying ever want to pay for them?

If you're inferring (which I know you are) that the people who have been footing the ever-increasing bill, with fewer and fewer driving the cart, are troubled at more people flooding into the cart every day, that's true. But your portrayal was less than honest. Those people don't mind paying for police, fire, etc., and I'm sure you know that.

I did a tax return for a single mom who made $20,000. The same day I did a tax return for a single mom making more like $30,000. When it came to figuring household income for a state credit, the person making $20,000 made more money after taxes than the person making $30,000. People who understand how this stuff works will be nodding their heads in agreement.

Don't be fooled into thinking the massive tax increases recently enacted will hit only the "evil rich." I don't care who says there won't be a single federal tax increase for anyone making less than $250,000, it's a lie, and everybody who pays attention knows that.

Our country's latest presidential election is like a marriage. We married the spouse. The spouse went out and bought a Humvee, a Cadillac, an ATV, and a beautiful vacation home with our credit card.

Are we ignorant enough to think it won't cost us anything because we haven't yet received the credit card statement?

The statement's in the mail folks. How can you be so greedy as to deny transportation and lodging to someone who couldn't afford it before they got their hands on your credit card? Greedy, greedy, greedy.

Just because it's common sense that that money must come from somewhere you can't expect people to WANT to pay it. They believe these things are more important than other things we're currently paying for so they think we should allocate fund from the less important to the more important. I personally don't think that's so outlandish considering our current system of taxation is based on population and percentages. If population is always going up...and wages are always going up...it makes sense that tax rates should not have to go up.

Few have problems with paying taxes for things like you mention above. They have problems with programs they feel are a waste of money. And for the record the taxes where people pay the most, State and Federal Income tax, don't fund the thing you mentioned.

because people have been stigmatized to thinking the gov't should take care of them

this country was founded by people who saw a need and worked to develop the solution, at the time there was no one there to do it otherwise, but little by little the take care of myself ethic has been eroded to let big brother take care of me
