Craigslist Job Offer Scam?
I e-mailed a job poster on Craigslist with my resume for an Office Administration position with UPD Property Management. I got an e-mail back for an interview, but was told I had to fill out an application on their website before coming in. A few steps into the application I have to get my phone "verified" and I get a secret code on my phone through text message from Craigslist, saying not to give it out. The application, of course, asks for the code. My question is, what is this secret code used for, and is this a job scam? I haven't typed in the code, but was really interested in this job and will be disappointed if it was fake...
Please help?

Almost all posts on craigslist requireing verification are identity theft scams, no real company makes you get a verification number or give your phone number before interviewing you.
That website was just created this week and registered in Russia, and the owner has over 3300 other domains, so if its a scam it means they would change names as soon as the site gets reported as a scam. I wouldn't trust it for anything

Do not send any more information or have any more contact with these people. Depending what information you already gave them, you might be targeted by email, phone or mail scams. If your home address was on your application and you now receive a package or money order from someone you don't know, do not accept it. Mark it as Unknown Addressee, Return to Sender, as you do not want to be caught up in a money laundering or reshipping scam.

I recently applied for a Part-time Teller position on Craigslist and got a response back from a Vannessa Crossby from BWA Property Management telling me I was the perfect applicant for the job but I needed to fill out an on-line application with a verification code. I googled her name and company and cannot find anything on the internet to verify this is a legitimate company. I m glad I didn t send in my resume right away and only responded with a letter. I believe this is a scam as well. What a disappointment.

I found a similar ad, offering many of the same opportunities with a very similar request that I must fill out there application first, which Craigslist specifically specifies probable cause to believe this ad is a scam. I also made the next logical step and searched the yellow pages for any reference of this company, and found no matches which any credible business would have. I am discouraged as well, and will make sure I report this possible scam to Craigslist, but my best advice is to not provide them with any more information. I will provide more feedback after I notify Craigslist.

I applied for a position for a shipping & receiving manager at a textile company. I got a reply the next day and all of a sudden the textile company had magically turned into UPD property management. Totally a scam!

I applied for a Relocation Manager and got a similar response - to fill out an online application. They said the company was WTC Property Management and the letter was signed by Rebecca, HR Manager. The email was not personally addressed to me, just "Hi". ALL RED FLAGS. When I search WTC Property Management online, no company comes up. BE CAREFUL!!

Same experience with http://dmopropmgt.org/ or "DMO Property Management". Required phone verification and then took me to a very sketchy "background check" site asking for my information. I've emailed the woman who told me I look like a great candidate (For property management? I'm a Manufacturing Process Engineer!!! Know nothing about Real Estate) and told her I will not give out my SSN or other personal information on the web. Made the mistake of sending them my Resume which has address and phone etc but as long as they don't have my SSN I think I'm safe --- yikes. Update to come.

Yup. It's a scam. I applied and when asked about the credit report, it gave me the option of getting it for free (Which cost a dollar) or marking that I already had it. When I marked that I already had it, it would not let me continue saying I needed to check that box. No real employer is going to ask you for credit card info, or social security number online. A credit check has nothing to do with a job, especial a menial labor job.

I replied to them too. This was supposed to be a dispatch position. When they responded they were a property management company, I wondered what they would have me "dispatch." They stated I needed to complete an online application, which was fine, but then that I had to do my own background check and pay for it myself. I've never had a company ask me to do that in all my life. This must be a scam.

I think this is a scam because I recently received an email from a job posting I emailed. This company was said to be "Hiring Cleaners" on the website. It said email us on why you are the best candidate for the job. I got their email and in it it said I got the job, but before I was given a date for the orientation they said I had to send in my credit report. If this is a well known company called "Bacardi"(the drink), why do I need to email them my credit report just to clean facilities. WATCH OUT PEOPLE>
Source(s): I went on Bacardi.com and the person that sent me the email is not listed under human resources staff.
