Has my aloe vera plant gone bad?

The gel is orange and smells funny. The plant looks healthy enough, but when I cut off some of it, the gel is orange and it smells bad. Any way I can fix this?

The roots have probably started to rot in which case there is nothing you can do except to allow the soil to dry out completely before watering again.

If you recently moved your Aloe outside to full sun or left it exposed it to cold temps below 55 degrees, then that may be the cause. Keep it protected from direct outdoor sun and from temps below 55 degrees.
