    You can only get pregnant when you are fertile. That usually means for a few days leading up to ovulation(the act of the egg breaking free from the ovary) and for 24 hrs after that single act of ovulation each month. You cannot depend on some random based calendar to tell you, ok, you a fertile on this day and this day, because every woman is different and even if you had 100 women with 28 day cycles, it doesn't mean they all ovulated on day 14. To know when you are fertile, the easiest way is to check your cervical mucus(on the toilet paper when you wipe after using the restroom) and when you see the really snotty looking stuff that kind of resembles eggwhites, then you are fertile. The more sperm you get into that kind of CM the better because that's what will keep it alive and healthy. During the "dry days" your cervical mucus is actually hostile to sperm and kills it off. It won't wait around for weeks and weeks to meet an egg and you only get 1 egg each month unless you ovulate 2 eggs within a 24hr period by chance.
