Using technology, what are some ways you have prevented any type of assault?

Update:

To Gunplumb, to answer your question....

By using the most effective deterent available to anyone, INSTINCT, if you sense danger you'll act upon it. Reflection helps us understand that we may or may not have been right. Of course, you have a point, but I'd rather be unsure, than harmed.

How can you be sure that an assault has actually been prevented if, being prevented, it never happened? You can never know that any action you take truly prevented a thing from happening.

A person could use a cell phone to call the police or threaten to call the police.

A person could also use their cell phone to take a picture of the perpetrator - might not prevent the assault but could be useful later as evidence. Or perhaps the threat of a photo would deter the assaulter.
