How can the Philippines become a 1st world country?

I'm a Filipino and I'm searching for answers. I'm disappointed in almost everything my country has. Our government is corrupt, our military can't defend us, our people vote for actors with no political experience and when there is corruption they start people power, people don't have any discipline in disposing their trash, high rate of unemployment and illiteracy, less police patrolling the city, high prices of food, power shortages, crappy justice system, political killings, foreigners prostitue our women, corrupt politicians.. that's all I can remember.

I know the Philippines is a beautiful country, has rich culture, beautiful women, great food etc.. But I was dreaming of a better Philippines like Singapore, Taiwan or Hong Kong. I'm proud of being a Filipino but I'm not proud of my country given those what I said above.

I'd like to be proven wrong and I want to see some hope for my country.

Please answer truthfully,

Anyone who answers Filipinos are monkeys shall go to hell and suck Satan's cock. :)

Thank You

When filipinos stop believing lies and silly propaganda, and instead work to establish a stable secure government, end terrorism and anarchy, reduce crime and corruption. These efforts will enhance investment, employment and incomes, and begin to pull filipinos up out of poverty.

The Philippines can become prosperous and move away from 3rd world status if the leaders get together and unite in a joint effort instead of back biting each other. They should make a conscious effort to rid themselves of the Muslim terrorists, NPA and drug dealers. The educated ones should remain in the Philippines and work towards making it a better place instead of leaving and taking their knowledge to another country. Then. returning and retiring in the Philippines and look down on the less fortunate The Catholic church should stay out of politics and the newspapers should remain neutral.

  • You will need a perfect 'storm' to make that happen, probably not in our generation. And it will not occur overnight. If divine intervention allows 6 or 60 successive good presidents who are not corrupt, open to suggestions and maintains a goal of achieving success using the same formula other countries like Singapore, Switzerland and others have employed, then that may be possible. But the population must also contribute. The task ahead for the new leadership is long and difficult and will need a lot of fortitude, brilliance and luck but he should try and never waiver. Now all citizens need to cooperate and start working towards achieving this goal. Keep the blaming game in check as that will not help. It only brings the country down further. Do not worry about other misguided elements like prostitutes. Every society have them. In our own they have mouths to feed and relatives to send to school. when they grow older they will learn and perhaps become entrepreneurs and open new businesses. And the tax coffers will benefit. So it is a plus in a way.

HOPE IS STILL IN THE MAKING just like an up coming blockbuster movies in your nearest cinema. But of course there is hope for the Philippines. We are both Filipino and we love our ONE & ONLY country the Philippines. Let me guess, you are a Filipino presently working and living in the States or in the US if I am not mistaken is it not? Most of the Filipinos here are in the US at this moment.

LET US REVERSE THE TREND. Most of the graduates we have in the Philippines go out of the country to earn a living for their families back home in the Philippines. Now those of you who will graduate in the US or in any universities in the US go back to the Philippines. Remember the famous line of JFK then who said "Ask NOT what your country can do for you, but ask what YOU can do for your country".

WE CAN MAKE THE PHILIPPINES MUCH MUCH MORE THAN THE 1ST world that we have in mind, but the problem is how to implement our idea's to reality. Filipinos are ONE of a kind. Do not compare Philippines to that of Singapore/Japan/Hongkong or other places in Southeast Asia. Remember Philippines history is much different of that of Singapore or Hongkong. If you happen to look at Philippines history from the beginning you will find that we have so many invaders since the beginning of time. Singapore was only colonize by the British likewise to that of Hongkong. But we have been invaded by Dutch/Chinese/Portugese/French/Spaniards/Americans/Japanese etc....That is why you may find us very different from the rest of the Southeast Asian brothers we have. So don't loose hope, just like I do. If there is a will, there is a way as often said.

The Philippines is a third world country... and the Philippines had a chance to become the first world country. But they allowed the opportunity to slip.

    Who cares now.

The Filipinos might start afresh, and begin studying logic. Make Filipino a logical language. Even more, focus on the fact that the Filipinos have the pacific ocean.

    After that, develop binding laws.

Singapore and Hong Kong = FORMER BRITISH COLONIES. One of the reasons why they are first world countries. Malaysia (also a former British Colony) is not far behind them.

Every country in EAST ASIA (Japan, China, South Korea), except for North Korea (communist) are RICH countries.

Ya know what's wrong with Philippines? Their description of Democracy. Too much democracy that they'll just be lazy and not help the country prosper, but hey, they can do that because it's dmeocracy. Not just that, a lot of Filipinos has the mentality of "mababa ang lipad" or GOALESS. As long as they can have money, they are already satisfied. Second, Filipinos are too damn emotional! Like damn! Noynoy Aquino become president, not because of his expertise, but because they sympathized him. And not just that, he came from a popular family. Whats the point of a non-corrupt government, when all they do is sit around do nothing about our country? Here comes the fruitless years of the Philippines. *sighs*

That why I don't love Philippines as a whole. I only love DAVAO CITY, my homecity. We don't care if our government is strict (according to those who doesn't live in the city), at least we don't have dirty and stupid politics here.

There are lots of things to do for this country! Educate the people, give the unemployed jobs, send the corrupt officials and criminals to prison, and help keep down the population. Lack of population control is the root of some of our problems, including lack of food and shelter.

But let us not spoon-feed the people too much. Yes, yes, helping people is a good trait, but if we give too much the people whom we give to will become lazy and all they will ever do is beg. Rather, we must teach them how to help themselves.

And a common weakness we have: misuse of the word democracy. Most of us think that when a government is democratic we are free to do anything we want. This is not true. The people need to open their eyes to the world and change themselves.

    1. educate the population (especially the women)

    2. taxation (too much untaxed enterprise)

    3. reduce population growth/family size

the global capital system will endeavour to stop the philippines from becoming a 1st world country. unless the economies of europe and the united states collapse it will be very difficult.

singapore taiwan and hong kong are rare and exceptional cases. research their histories to find out the secrets to their success

puerto princessa in palawan is very clean. there is no trash on the streets. perhaps begin by implementing their anti-littering laws

The only way is too root out the corruption in the government by actually sending those guilty of graft and corruption to prison. So much government money is stolen from infrastructure projects what you wind up getting is substandard structure, lack of money for social programs etc.

I hope your President Elect actually starts to make some progress in this area. It's the ONLY way the Philippines will ever stand a chance of developing into a first world country.

  • actually there are several Filipinos live at that standard of living herein Philippines itself being rich and famous, they are living usually in provinces not in metro manila.

Philippines cannot be compare to Singapore because this country is composed of multi ethnic groups with different cultures, beliefs and each them has history of rebellion. Philippine Gov't cannot do as like Lee Kuan Yew did in Singapore where the Singaporeans seem a robot and have less freedom.

Our military can't defend us...yes i might agree But We Filipinos can defend ourselves, some Filipino families in this country has own private armies. Lost firearms in this country more than 2x the population of this country these firearms are enough to protect civilian Filipinos.
