Apartment falling apart? Can i sue landlord? Help?
For about a year my apartment has been breaking apart. The doors have tearing, the cabinets are peeling. The lock from the front door isn't reliable. The floor could use some work. Big chunks of the ceiling fall. water leaking from the bathroom' and kitchen's ceiling. We have repeatedly called the landlord to come and fix it, but he doesn't. There are children living here and we don't have enough money to move out. what laws or acts are against this? i didn't know what category to put this is
i live in nyc if that helps

I would call your municipality's building code department and have them come out to inspect it. They will light a fire under your landlord's rear end.

IDK about sue because you are not out anything the best thing that could happen is you get the state or someone to view the place and see that it is unlivable that way you can withhold rent and or move but since it isnt you property and you have not lost any money you can't sue...you can have grounds to break the lease though

yes u can sue but depends if u signed a contract were it says apartment as is if u moved and apartment was good and now its falling apart they will say it your fault u can contact the housing board in your state and ask for help if he says no and u paying rent he has to fix place or he can lose it.
