Christians: Follow up to the not needing to do works for salvation...hypothetically speaking?
I'm still trying to understand this concept, so bare with me.
If you only need blind faith to be saved then why is homosexuality wrong? The Bible says it's a sin, but from what some of you said in my previous question sins are okay because as long as you have blind faith you are saved.
So hypothetically if a gay person is saved, meaning they have blind faith that Jesus is their savior and died for their sins, then why are they going to hell? Or adulterers, same concept.
This question would lead one to believe you do have to do works to go to heaven or that homosexuality shouldn't matter in Christianity as long as the person has been saved.
Right?
Again, to clarify, I don't believe in a god, so you preaching at me isn't going to accomplish anything. I just want to understand why Christians believe this concept.
PaulCyp, then you are saying certain works are required? It's not just blind faith then?

Just because some people interpret the Bible as condemnatory of all homosexual activities, does not make this a fact.
Why can we not try our best to apply the command to "love our neighbor as ourselves" and please stop this ignorant blanket condemnations of other people we do not even know?
Why can't we also apply understanding and reason to this issue? True live can NOT be wrong. Misapplied perhaps but that comes only from inadequate knowledge and understanding. What we need to do is learn all we can so that we may make our best informed decisions.
As for gay people, why are so many other people so concerned about their committed loving and self-giving relationships?
And likewise, if we truly love our neighbor, "works" would naturally follow.
The Bible also states the following:
James 2:14-16 "What good is it, my brothers if you have faith but do not have works? Can faith save you. If a brother is naked and lacks daily food. If one of you says to them, 'Go in peace, keep warm and eat your fill', and yet you do not supply their bodily needs, what is the good of that? So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead."
Mat 25:40 When you have done this to the least of my brothers you did it unto me
Mat 25:40-43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.' Then they also will answer, "Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you?' Then he will answer them, "Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.' And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."
There are many additional passages of similar nature.
And just common sense should tell us, a person who is a Christian will strive to act on the teachings of Christ. They include doing works. How about also reading the Beatitudes
All this nonsense about salvation by faith ALONE, was started by Martin Luther who also tried to add the word "alone" to HIS version of the Bible (see the ORIGINAL Luther Bible) where it says a "man is saved by Faith." Note he also tried to throw out parts of the Bible including the Beatitudes which he said were written by the devil, and also several of the epistles -- especially that one by James who speaks of "Faith without works is dead."

First of all faith is a given to be saved yes but there is more to that. Works are very important in a Christian life. Doing good works a big part of living a fulfilling life as a Christian. The more important thing is where your heart is at and the relationship with Jesus. Sin is sin. No Christian can escape from it. A true Christian confesses any sin they have to God and asks for forgiveness so they can follow him and keep their relationship open to him. The problem is that God gave us the freedom to choose. When someone chooses to not be a Christian they forfeit the closeness they can have with God.

I believe the only work that is needed is to abide in Jesus (and that is a long discussion in itself). People that do abide in Jesus still sin, they are not perfect. It does not matter whether their sin is adultery, greed, homosexuality, seeking something other than God for fulfillment, condemning homosexuals, judging that God can't save someone, or any other sin; if you are drawing your life from Jesus and continue to seek Him than you accept that He makes you clean from the sins.
I believe there is a difference between a sinner (homosexual or any other sin) that believes they are doing wrong and seek help for it from Jesus, and a sinner that does not think they are doing anything wrong and that they don't need Jesus' help. I also believe that what we see in other people is not necessarily the end of the story. People grow and change and and God has patience for it although many of us believers sin in condemnation of these people.
I hope that you find the answer to your quest and that my response is helpful.

A person who has accepted Jesus Christ into their heart and confessed their sins to Him is saved. No sin is unforgivable except for the rejection of Jesus. When we are saved God gives us the Holy Spirit to help us to live the life God has for us. After we are saved God allows us to do works for His glory when we are in His will. A person caught in sin by satan will not do works because they are out side of God's will. This does not keep them from heaven but it will be a life full of loss with nothing to show for the kingdom and how sad they will be in Heaven. Many even in church are not saved so it is also possible that those caught up in sin have never been saved.

Read the last paragraph of Matt 25! A list of the kinds of works Christians are required to do, followed by a straightforward statement that those who fail to do them will go to hell! Could God have made this any clearer? The whole passage doesn't even mention faith, though the need for faith is of course emphasized in other passages. This kind of pick-and-choose biblical belief is sadly typical of Protestantism. Quote the passages that seem to support what you want to believe, and just ignore the rest. Beliefs are not true beliefs unless they are in accord with EVERYTHING God's Word has to say on the subject.

Did you spin in circles before asking this? It makes almost no sense, no wonder you're confused. We are saved by grace not works lest any man should boast. Feeding all the little orphans in Africa will not get you into heaven. We accept Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior and become joint heirs with Him. How can you sin, which is doing the devil's bidding, trampling the blood of Jesus and then expect to share in His kingdom? You can't, you can only serve one master at a time. If you love one then you hate the other. Sin= curses and destruction. Obedience= blessings.

U got a good point. The religion I grew up in, taught me that homosexuality is indeed a sin, however if you confess and repent, you are saved. I have the same preference you do, however I struggle everyday. I am a religious person, and I also want a good reason why it's wrong. Other than what I have been taught. It's immoral, it's not right, so on and so forth. I went to a religious drug treatment center, and they spoke of homosexuality frequently, and they could never come up with anything better "because the bible tells us so," if native culture could still run the world then where's King Obama? Where's Caeser Palin? I guess it's wrong because it's not natural.

This is a flawed concept. It's also a largely Protestant concept. "Once saved, always saved" is a falsehood.
In the Bible, it also says that "faith without works is dead." It also says in 1 Corinthians 13 that "and if I have faith so as to move mountains, but have not charity, I am nothing." So, faith in itself means very little. Even the devil himself has faith - he knows exactly who God is and who he rebelled against - but it doesn't save him! His actions are what got him sent to hell with the rest of the fallen angels.
So no, a person who is homosexual who claims to have faith is not saved - because they are persisting in their sin. Those who persist in adultery, same thing - "faith" means nothing if it doesn't bear fruit, meaning that we are certainly judged by our actions.
Whoever told you about being saved by faith alone was sadly mistaken. Don't waste your time trying to understand that flawed concept anymore.

I'm Christian and don't understand it. But, I'll try.
The problem with homosexuality isn't in the mindset of being attracted to the opposite sex, or having a tendancy to do things like the opposite sex...it is literally in the sex. Sex between a male and a male or a female and a female is the part that God hates.
If it were simply the state of mind, then tomboys and sweeter boys wouldn't go to heaven either.
What I'm thinking is that if you truly believe in Christ, and you are saved, then you will automatically be compelled to do good works for Him and avoid homosexual sex.
Look at Little Richard. He is definitely a sweeter...but he's not gay because he doesn't have gay sex.
Like I said, I'm confused myself right now, but this is how I look at the subject. Email me if you find out the real reason, okay?

Ephesians 2:8-10 says we are saved by using grace by using faith, and it relatively is not something we do (no longer even using our loose will) and not as a results of works. it relatively is the present of God. yet we are saved "for" good works that God arranged before. This consents with James, yet no longer with the Roman Catholic Church. Galatians a million:6-9 says a distortion of the gospel is accursed. This replaced into the main significant reason of the Protestant Reformation.
