well... it will go down three ways. there will be a few who will be horrified. there will be those who could seriously care less. and there will be those that will support her. being a muslim myself (and i wear the head scarf too), I was really happy that she won. she truly is beautiful. islam teaches over and over again that religion is not compulsory. the muslim world is not as backward as many think. just look at miss pakistan on this link:

we have actresses, models, fashion designers, singers, dancers...etc. There are always those who will probably put her down, but there are just as many who are fine with it.

By the way to the one person above: I've heard muslims say "ahlan" instead of as-salamualaikum. im disagreeing or anything....just saying

Pageants are ridiculous. She doesn't need Miss USA to tell her she is beautiful. Pageants just pray on women with low self-esteem and encourage girls to be something they shouldn't idolize -- but unfortunately do.

And since our world idolizes beauty... You go girl! For doing something completely against the norm. I'm sure it was not easy wearing lingerie, a bikini or even a strapless gown... for her family and community. And she is surely going to get a lot of heat for it.

And props for the Contest for giving her the win again, against the norm. Arabs are beautiful. :-)

First of all, Lebanon is half christan and half muslim. Lebanon has the best night clubs and is known to be more european than arab. I live in lebanon and muslim women in lebanon drink, wear a bikini like my wife and do whatever they want. I dont know her faith but yes Arab Americans can be christians or muslims.

For Muslims out there, I will say what she does or doesnt do is not for you to Judge. If God can forgive a prostitute for giving water to a thirsty dog and hold a pious person accountable for being cruel or angry with fellow people or animals then please leave the judgement to who is best suited for it... God. If you think she is not doing the right thing then you can pray for her guidance but nothing gives you the right to bad mouth her.

Oh what joy, yes the Muslim world is celebrating, but as with anything there will always be cynics!!

for someone who could careless about what she does and whatnot, you sure took the time to write that freaking essay! Who are you to say she's a Muslim or not? People interpret religion differently. Just because she doesn't interpret her religion the way you do gives you the right to say she's not a Muslim? Isn't God the only one who could possibly know that? Beauty pageants are pointless. There's something to be said for finding the best example of natural beauty, but after slathering on pounds of makeup, fake boobs, fake eyelashes, fake hair... you might as well watch a pageant of CGI characters.
