When did you first feel baby moving?
I've been trying to conceive for 3 years, have had 5 losses, and am finally 14 weeks pregnant with a healthy babe.
I'm trying not to worry, but I don't think I'll relax fully until I can feel baby moving.
My placenta is prosterior, and I've heard from midwife/ob friends that with prosterior placentas some women can feel movement at 15 weeks (though that seems a bit early to me).
So, when did you first feel your baby move, and (if you happen to know) where was your placenta?
Anterior placentas tend to feel movement later (20 weeks +), since the placenta pads the front side of your uterus.

I had a posterior placenta with baby 1 and felt him -bubbly flutters - at 13 weeks (for the sceptics I was having a scan at 14 weeks and I mentioned to the Obgyn that I had just felt a kick and he confirmed he had just seen one). My husband felt B1 kicking by 16 weeks. But then he was a pretty big baby, he was a big kicker and I tend to be quite physically aware.
With B2 I am carrying very low and have an anterior placenta, I didn't feel her until around 20 weeks and hubby didn't feel her until about 25 weeks.
So it is possible that you will feel movement early but there are a number of things (placenta position aside) that might affect this.
I am so sorry about your losses, it might be a bit early but you may find a fetal heartrate monitor re-assuring (some do some don't). I do wish you ever success and a peaceful pregnancy once you get past this worrying stage. x

I completely understand how you feel! I am now 25 weeks after 2 losses and did the very same thing- worrying about when she would start moving and if she was moving enough! I think when I first felt her move the first time that I knew for sure it was her was 18 weeks. I had felt flutters before that intermittently, but nothing I could say 100% was the baby. The movement became much more regular and noticeable after 20 weeks. The 20-week ultrasound showed my placenta was low-lying. I go back May 28 for another ultrasound to see how much she has grown and to be sure the placenta has moved out of the way and is not a placenta previa. I am sure I have driven my doctors crazy asking about every little thing, but I will worry up until I have her with me, and probably even after that! I can totally relate to how you must be feeling. I am sure everything will be wonderful for you this time, and I am so excited for you!

I am a few days away from 17 weeks, and have felt nothing yet. At my 16 week appointment, my doctor did ask if I had felt movement yet. He said that it is very common for women to not feel movement until after 20 weeks with their first baby. First, because you don't know what you are feeling right away, and second-- with the next baby, the stomach muscles are more lax & you notice it easier. The 'what to expect when you're expecting' book says that on average, most people feel movements around 18-22 weeks. I think that this is regardless of where your placenta is. I wouldn't think it would matter where your placenta was, but I don't know... It seems like it would just affect where you feel the movement!

With my first I felt him move around 18 weeks (wasn't 100% sure until 20 weeks) --- anterior placenta.
My second I felt him move at 15 weeks - also anterior placenta.
I was SO bummed when I found out I had an anterior placenta for #2 as I was hoping I'd have a posterior one so I could feel earlier movement --- but I did feel him move relatively early.
The first time I felt movement (my first child) I thought it was gas --- it took a while of feeling it to realize it wasn't gas! Don't worry when you first start feeling the baby moving if you don't feel it again for several days --- when movement starts it isn't consistent/daily.

I felt my little guy at about 19-20 weeks. There's lots of different feelings when you feel them that early in the game. Some say butterflies but what I felt (doctor confirmed that it was baby kicks), like when your riding in the car and you go over this huge hill. Your stomach drops, that's what I felt at first. Then it was kicks, then it was punches and kicks! I swear he was a karate kicker already! My placenta was not prosterior, I can't quite remember where.
Good luck to you and your little one, I hope all goes well!

Hi Alexandra,
My placenta is anterior high but still I started feeling the first few baby flutters when I was 14 weeks along. Although the flutters were only like twice or thrice a week, I was so sure it was the baby. Now, 28 weeks along, I feel her always. When is ur due date? Have you started telling your relatives and friends about the pregnancy? I'm sure that's the most exciting part when u share it with others.
Take care and enjoy ur pregnancy.

Around that time (14 weeks) I felt some possible movement but it was faint and not consistent. I am 20 weeks a feel the baby move at least once a day now- and in a few weeks I will be feeling movement all of the time. At least I did with my first.

I felt what felt almost like pop corn popping around like 16-18 weeks and I felt her move for sure at around 20 weeks.
I'm not sure where my placenta was though.Feeling your baby move is going to be so new to you that you wont really recognize the feeling right away. And when if youre anything like me you will worry that when you do start feeling the baby move and then you dont feel it you will worry about why you arent feeling it move. But they dont move around much at first you may feel it then not again for a week or so. I feel bad a bout saying "it" lol but I don't know what you are having yet.
Are you going to find out what the sex is? I am excited to know!! Im so happy you are doing so well.. its so exciting!
That babe is going to be your world. Its the best!

I was 17 weeks when I first felt the baby move. If this is your first pregnancy that you've carried this far, you might not recognize the movements. It feels similar to the rumbling of a stomach. Or like soda bubbles.
I know how you feel though. I can't start my morning until I feel the baby move. And hearing that heartbeat at the doctor's office is the most reassuring sound in the world.

I felt my 1st baby move very early on (about 16-18 weeks I believe) I am very slender and my midwife told me that was a reason I felt him move early on. With this pregnancy I am only 11 weeks along and obviously no baby moving yet. I heard you feelt 2nd, 3rd, etc. babies move sooner. I heard the heartbeat for the 1st time last week and that was wonderful! Most women don't feel 1st babies move until around 20+ weeks. So don't freak out if you don't feel the baby move. Many times we do but take he feeling as gas, tummy bubbles, etc. I would lay on my back at night and just concentrate on my belly and thats usually when I felt him move. It became very frustrating when i knew I felt him move, and my husband could not yet feel through my belly. Once my husband then fel tthe baby move (much later) it was such a cool experience fo rus to share.
I am sorry for all the loses you have endured, and so happy for you! Try to relax, it will happen...
