What does it mean when I guy says he likes you but he's not really looking for a girlfriend?

Either 1. He's saying that he wants to get laid but doesn't want to see you the next morning.

Or

2. He is daring you to put yourself on the line a bit more. Don't bite. All men are looking for girlfriends - this initial expression of autonomy is just part of a game. Now it is your turn to pull back and be coy. Make it clear to him that having you as a girlfriend would rock. Then, make him work for it.

I think that there is a chance that he really likes you but hasn't completely come to terms with his feelings.It also could have something to do with both of yours social standing, is there a chance that his friends or family may not like you. Another thing is that maybe he isnt allowed to have a girlfriend(though this really depends on your age.) Maybe he is being a bit selfish and doesn't want a girlfriend but doesn't want you to go out with someone else...So he told you that he like d you inn hopes that you would wait for him? There are many possibilities.

There's nothing underlying. It means that, though you're nice, he really isn't looking for a girlfriend like you.

The funny thing about guys-- they often communicate exactly what they mean.

Go find some other /greater guy to give your time and energy to.

He wants the benefits of a girlfriend, but not the committment. He wants the milk free, without having to feed the cow. It is simple. He wants to use your body to get his rocks off and be free to move on with no strings attached.

There is no better way to put it. Don't try to make it be something deep. It's not. It's about sex, without responsibility.

Maybe he doesn't want to hurt your feelings...or maybe what he's saying is true. Why does there have to be an "underlying" reason? Maybe he just wants to be your friend for a while so that he can get a feel for what you are really like when all walls come down...

Just wants to have fun.

He wants to keep you around. possibly as a potential girlfriend in the future. but could also be he just wants to smash.
