    The square root of x squared cancels out, so you're left with x on that side.

    Then you need to get your x's one one side and your numbers on the other:

    x+x=3-5

    Add like terms:

    2x=-2

    Divide by 2:

    x=-1

    the square root of x squared is x, so you get x +5 = 3-x

    Carry all the x's to one side and you get 2x= 3-5

    2x=-2

    x= -1

    Unless you mean root of ( x squared + 5), cuz then you've got to square both sides and then solve.
