WHAT DO YOU THINK WHEN AN INSTRUCTOR?
once it happened to me that i was receiving martial arts classes with a very good licensed and credited instructor.the thing with this was that at first he was very meticulous about teaching and he tried to develop the natural abilities in his students.some time later he was only paying attention to the students who were winning at tournaments.the ones that did not compete or did not do good at tournaments were left out of the attention of the instructor.he only payed a little attention and left some routines or drills to the other ones, sometimes katas but only went to see them to tell them they were doing it wrong,he did not took the time to teach Kata, only did it once and then he left them there.he also used the other guys for demonstrating techniques so the prize pupils and black belts did not get hurt.he did not treat them bad in other ways but he did neglected them.the thing about it is that i think he should at least have been honest with them and tell them that there was no room for them, because he was charging for the lessons anyway.

This is really shame on the part of Instructor who is showing discrimination on the gym, if that's so then there is no reason that the student must stay on such school, how could he concentrate if such issue happen without raising any grounds.
I am also an Instructor but I fairly treat everybody to avoid misunderstanding between them or between me, some are good and others are not but lessons must provided according to the curriculum I give them, they are expecting what to learn next, so it must be done according to step by step development.
If such occur, then there is no reason a student must stay, things are about focus but how such would happen if some unnecessary factors occur and few only will received benefits, time is gold so he must decide what to do to achieve contentment during practice, look for better one who are willing to teach and share their skills and knowledge.
Good luck

TKD girl had it almost right, except she said he doesn't have MUCH integrity. I would say this bum has absolutely ZERO integrity, doesn't even know what it means. This type of behavior and attitude is increasingly common in schools that have turned martial art into a sport and a game.So unless you want to continue being neglected by these "coaches", find a real sifu/sensei who teaches real martial art and not tournament competition.

Yeah, I dunno, I think my Shifu is doing that too. It's the crappiest feeling in the world. I want to be better, but I can't. So does that mean I am condemned to be the "second rate" martial artist?
Great Shifus/Senseis/Masters do not play favorites. If anything, I feel that yours should be separating the two skill levels for different times of the day so that he can give his full attention to each class.

I would say confront him about it or leave. My BJJ instructor is doing this a little bit now, but only because 3 guys have big fights coming up, but our MT instructor fills in. It's ok with me because i need to work on my stand up more than ground.

It's the students decision whether to train there or not - I would leave. Sounds like the instructor wanted the fame that came with having his students win. He doesn't have much integrity.
