WHAT IS WITH THESE GUYS?

my question has no intentions of attacking any discipline or their practitioners but from what i have seen the taekwondo practitioners are really cocky and brag about how their discipline is the best, and are pretty much the ones get the worst part on the streets or when facing other martial artists.it is not that other ma practitioners never do it but i have seen that behavior in larger scale in taekwondo practitioners.

I've been playing Tae Kwon Do since 2006 but I didn't hear someone say we are better to anybody, our Instructor remind us of some advantage and disadvantages of our techniques, most necessary part are respect and discipline wherein it views how they mold us as practitioner.

Not all are like that, it depends upon how the Instructor give them full advice on how to deal with other people, what you seen maybe is a mcdojang who didn't understand the nature of the sports or arts they do.

    Good luck

I have worked with some of my competitor's students and black-belts unbeknown to their master or instructor as he would have kicked them out or discharged them. So many are brain washed into believing that their ability and art is unstoppable to the point that it is almost fanatical with those I or my students have sometimes encountered. It is not until they are away from all that and are exposed to other arts and other approaches that they realize how inadequate some of their training may have been. At the same time some never realize or accept that and you just have to shake your head and move on as they are not going to change their thinking or approach. The ones that I have worked with are less brainwashed it seems and realize and see a need and seek me out to fill that need and often times their master or instructors comment on how much they have improved once I have worked with them. While confidence is a good thing many don't have the skill to go with it and this is why many TKD tournaments are closed tournaments and don't allow others to compete in them even under TKD rules. It is also why some of those students and black-belts have come to me for help with different aspects that they were not receiving on their own at their TKD school and from it's instructor's.

There was just a question the other day similar to this and I have friends that are TKD who are quite good and produce a quality student that does not fit the norm of most TKD. Their standards for testing and promotion are higher and they also teach and emphasize the punching and striking aspects more and turn out a better, more rounded student. They don't rely on keeping their students sheltered from other aspects of martial arts for fear of losing them and rely on brainwashing them into thinking like so many others do. I will also add that the TKD in Korea is different and much harder in some ways than that offered in large part in this country and not so watered down. There is not the same attitude or approach either in some ways and they don't rely quite so heavily on brainwashing their students or sheltering them.

Some of this is also probably caused by feelings of inferiority and a need to maybe compensate for it in some way. Vocally compensating for it probably does that for them but when tested, leaves them woefully ready to back it up if they don't have the skill, understanding, and knowledge to go with it is my opinion.

Every style/art has people who are cocky. Some go out and pick fights, others don't. Some win and some lose.

Best just to ignore them. Generally speaking the people who really can whip your *** won't say anything about it because they know that if the law gets involved a well trained person who picked a fight may well get in a lot of trouble, they also generally don't feel the need to compensate for a lack of skills by talking a big game.

Never seen that. All martial arts have benevolence as the first virtue. Treat others as you would yourself. If these TKD fools are talking trash about how their discipline is the best, they're not real TKD practitioners, no matter how hard or fast they kick.

Don't worry, we're not all like that. Some less traditional instructors don't instill all of the aspects of Taekwondo in their students. I wouldn't consider those real Taekwondo practitioners.

The five tenets of Taekwondo are:

    Courtesy

    Integrity

    Perseverance

    Self-Control

    Indomitable Spirit.

It may be that the specific people you're talking about train at a "mcdojo".

tht guy is not a real practitioner... he would be kicked out of school for bragging... real tae kwon do does say that they WILL teach discipline, they never say that theirs is the best... their main focus is self defense and being able to defend yourself in a bad situation...

Source(s): black belt dan 3... i know "nub"? well that shows your lack of discipline XD

many people today studying the martial arts have forgoten the true ways of the martial arts in the first place. those same people that talk most of that stuff is ussually heavily paticipant in alot of tournaments and have not a clue what its like in actual street self defense. im a martial artist myself 7th degree blackbelt in american kenpo karate, and trust me i know exactly what your talking about.

Almost every single commercial martial art dojo/dojang/school will have at least several idiots who are so full of themselves that they think they're practically invincible. Trying to argue with people is (always) a waste of time, so just ignore them.
