Please Help.. rabies question?
My dog got a groundhog about a month ago.. he got bit by it on the foot. If the groundhog had rabies Is it possible that my dog licked his wound, got the contaminated saliva in his mouth.. and transferred it to me 1-2 hours later by licking me?
He was over due on his vaccinations.. he got boosted the same day after he got bit. He is acting normal.. he was yodeling a little more than usual latley, but I think it is from the lack of exercise.

umm no its impossible for the human body to get rabies...if you've had your immunizations when you were born then you should be fine...but a tetnouse shot wouldnt hurt either.

While it is possible that you contracted rabies from your dog who may have been bitten by a rabid groundhog, it is highly unlikely. By law dogs must be vaccinated in the United States - so if you bring your dog to the veterinarian at all, he has surely received the vaccine. This minimizes exposure to you to almost nothing.
You mention that your dog was bit about 1 month ago, has he shown any symptoms? Changed his behavior in a strange way - become lethargic/ lazy or aggressive? Those types of symptoms typically show up within 2 months of exposure. If he has shown changes, be sure to bring him to the vet immediately.

FBG's post is not completely accurate! It is very possible for humans to contract rabies. Although, I find it hard to believe that it could happen this way. Still, if you are unsure, you should contact your doctor immediately. If you did contract it, there is a small window of time for treatment before the virus gets out of control.
I hope this helps,
