Why does Kurt Gidley continue to be the NSW fullback?

Honestly he is rubbish compared to other options. He should be on the bench as an utility. Dugan or Hayne would be a much better option.

Have fun losing NSW.

Update:

It's fun to bag out Gidley though

Gidley shouldn't be the fullback. Hayne, Patten, Dugan are all better. It is crazy what they have done. Playing the best fullback on the wing. Playing a bloke who has publicly said he doesn't want to play five eight playing five eight. Bird would have been a better choice. One of the stars in the recent test, Gallen, not even getting on the bench. The bench, two forwards, one utility and one back.

It isn't a mystery why he continually gets picked to captain NSW and to play fullback. If you think it's the Blues selectors, ask Rick Stone why he's the captain of Newcastle or Tim Sheens why he continually gets chosen for Australia. While you're talking to Sheens, ask him why Gidley replaced Slater for the Kangaroos over Dugan or Hayne or any other try scoring fullback. People who actually know what they're talking about and know the definition of a true Rugby League player knows how good Gidley is and how much he brings to a team. He might not be as flashy as Dugan or Hayne but he definitely makes up for it in his defence, workload, toughness and ability to inspire those around him.

I actually think the selectors were pretty smart. With Gidley starting fullback he'll have to move to hooker sometime to accommodate Idris and this would mean Hayne to fullback and this could be a real attacking chance for the blues with all the big forwards tired, The quicker men could really hurt the Maroons

I have to agree with you, though he is tough as nails, never gives in and has a great fitness level,he just dosen't provide that x-factor that a true fullback needs to have in order to be pure fullback, and is only in the run-on side because he is captain,I think it's a year too early for Dugan and hayne hasn't been in great form anyway,Minichello would do a good job but I just can't understand why they always overlook patten,he is as safe as they come at the back and is very affective in attacking situations!

If you actually read articles on the internet, you would know that Hayne will be getting a fair bit of game time at fullback which will switch Gids to hooker.

Enough with the Gidley bashing everybody?

    It's getting old......

Gidley is great for Newcastle but he's not the best fullback in the game, he works well within Newcastles team and game play.

Personally I would have him on the bench. He's not the best utility either but he's an overall good player who does get the job done.

@ Aiden, The Gidley bashing may be getting old, and so is Gidley.... He is hopeless. I reckon they should put Dugan or (as much as it pains me to say it) Hayne. They are so much better than him...

    But keep Gidley there...

    GO QLD!!

Selectors have sh!t in their eyes. Pattern or Dugan should be fullback, NOT HAYNE.

Because the selectors put him there.
