  • North Queensland Cowboys?

Thanks everyone for doubting us... just give us the 2011 premiership now.

    Cheers.

  • It's time for the Ashes?

As most of you should know it's time for the Ashes. Just wondering who you guys think will win? I want England to win but I do think Australia will be too strong. Keen on KP hitting a few runs and possibly a century!

P.S. if any of you remember me, this is The Barmy Army who has returned. Was once a Top Contributor here about 2 years ago so it's good to be back.

  • Is 2011 the year the Blues break the hoodoo?

If there is to be any year that NSW will win State of Origin, it will be 2011.

We saw the Blues in Game 3 of this years series and they certainly caused Queensland a lot of headaches. The likes of Bird and Gallen combining should bring a lot of confidence to the Blues next year. I also think Game 3 of last year established Greg Bird as one of the superstars of the game. 23 tackles, 20 hitups for 164 metres, 5 offloads, 1 line break and 1 try, the Blues selectors would be stupid to not name him at starting lock. Thrives on the big stage.

Josh Dugan... this kid deserves a shot at Origin. He just keeps on getting better and if Hayne keeps on showing the inconsistent form then he deserves first shot at the fullback spot.

Queensland will keep the same team except for Folau, and Dallas Johnson will return and start at lock for Queensland. So Queensland pretty much lose nothing in terms of player quality.

We might of said this for the past few years, but I genuinely believe the Blues have a chance of winning next year. I support QLD and this is the first time in a while I am concerned at the quality the Blues have at their disposal and the threats all over the park.

  • Which team has recruited the best?

A lot of player movement over the offseason so who do you think has recruited the best so far.

In terms of players you could say the Bulldogs but at the end of the day I don't think they are going to improve as much as people think. Their halves are inexperienced, if Ben Roberts (who is relatively injury prone) goes down injured then they will struggle with Hokko and Keating in the halves. Hokko was bought when he was in a good patch of form, he slacked off as the year went on and I wouldn't be surprised if that was his real form.

No bias involved but I reckon the Cowboys are a team who has been really good on the market. Got rid of the likes of Webb, Kaufusi, Manuokafoa, O'Donnell, Southern and Harris. All of these guys were on decent cash (believe it or not, Harris was signed on a 3 year deal in 2008 to replace Paul Bowman, on 250k a year!) and replaced them with the likes of Johnson, Faifai Loa, Tate, Tariq Sims (NYC player of the year), G. Cooper and Winterstein.

Sharks have also recruited relatively well. But they have go no halves, and with no halves you can't do anything, no matter how good your forward pack is. They have a gun forward pack, but they have no halves to capatilize off the good forward pack and their backs are rubbish meaning they will struggle to score points once again.

  • What is happening to the Knights?

This is not a personal attack on the Knights

But I think the Knights are going down the shitter, Rick Stone was the wrong man to take the job, they haven't really got a good halfback and their forward pack is mud at the moment. Ben Rogers is great 1 game and **** the next and Scott Dureau is plain pathetic.

I reckon what you guys need is an experienced 5/8. Perfect example is Brett Finch, he could mentor Jarrod Mullen. Jarrod has struggled badly this year and I'm not sure if he is really a good player. A guy like Finch or another experienced half would do him a world of good

Play the young guys next year. A good example is Simon Williams. A young centre with plenty of promise and potential. He is the type of player you need. Naiqama and Lulia are mud.

Another thing is a prop, your forwards always look like they are being dominated and have no leg drive, I'm not sure if Evarn Tuimavave is good enough to be starting when fit.

On the positives, Con Mika has been explosive on the bench and he is what you need, with more gametime he will only get fitter and can do it for longer periods of time.

This is what your team should be next year

    1. Kurt Gidley (c)

    2. Akuila Uate

    3. Junior Sau

    4. Simon Williams

    5. James McManus

    6. Brett Finch

    7. Jarrod Mullen

    8. Ben Cross

    9. Isaac De Gois

    10. (prop), maybe Brett White?

    11. Zeb Taia

    12. Cory Paterson

    13. Steve Simpson

    14. Matt Hilder

    15. Con Mika

    16. Joel Edwards

    17. Evarn Tuimavave

    18. Shannon McDonnell

    19. Richard Fa'aoso

    20. Beau Henry

Guys like Taufua, Fa'aoso etc would also be in the mix but I think its time to send them to park footy and let them earn their bench spot, as they have just not shown their 2009 form. I have no idea what has happened to Richie over the off-season but he is a different player this year. All that aggression = gone.

What do you guys reckon needs to change?

  • Exactly why Gidley shouldn't be NSW fullback?

Wooshka, put Hayne at fullback and boom a try is scored.

    17 AnswersRugby League1 decade ago
  • We all know the NSW Selectors are gumbys...?

So what would your NSW team be?

    4 AnswersRugby League1 decade ago
  • Why does Kurt Gidley continue to be the NSW fullback?

Honestly he is rubbish compared to other options. He should be on the bench as an utility. Dugan or Hayne would be a much better option.

    Have fun losing NSW.

Appears that the Broncos are looking to sign Ben Hannant coz he's homesick, and I was on the money

Do you think the Dogs will struggle without Hannant, or will they cope?

  • How do you think your team will look in 2013?

This question has been asked before, not sure who by though but I would like to see what you think your team will look like in 2013. Try and be realistic, don't have an allstar team, you can have as many outside signings you can, just they can't be all stars, you get the drift. Remember to have Toyota Cup players as well!

    1. Shannon Gallant

    2. Obe Geia *

    3. Donald Malone

    4. Willie Tonga

    5. Moses Pangai * (the next Izzy Folau, only 17 years old)

    6. Ray Thompson *

    7. Nathan Fien

    8. James Tamou

    9. Aaron Payne (c)

    10. Matthew Scott

    11. Steve Rapira

    12. Leeson Ah Mau *

    13. Luke O'Donnell

    14. James Segeyaro *

    15. Dane Hogan *

    16. Troyden Watene *

    17. Dylan Smith *

    * indicates they played Toyota Cup in 2009

This team is great. We got rid of the man who think he can do everything so we can actually play as a team. Matt Bowen is dead wood now, his injuries have stuffed him up so I hope we can have Shannon Gallant for a while.

All you doubters of Nathan Fien, remember 2004? He was awesome then, and I think he is more of a team player and I think this team can go a long way.

We also will hopefully have the future of NZ Rugby League in Steve Rapira, Leeson Ah Mau and James Tamou.

  • What was so special about that Nathan Merritt field goal?

That one in heritage round against the Tigers, I am struggling to find why it is so special. It even won an award in the Dally M.. made me sick lol.

Any clue why it is so good?

Name the most weirdest 17 you can. Examples: include Moimoi at fullback, Chris Sandow at prop forward and Shane Tronc at winger.

  • So what is happening with the West Indies?

I heard that the best players in the West Indies are on strike over contract payments, so has this been settled? Because I don't want to watch a helpless second rate West Indies over in Australia being flogged. I want the full strength team with Chris Gayle, Shiv Chanderpaul and Dwayne Bravo.

    Any update on this situation?

  • EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!!!?

My friends dad is good mates of Ivan Henjak when Ivan coached my mate when he was playing at Centenary Panthers (RL club out Ipswich way) and Ivan has said that he has been in contact with Ben Hannant's manager, in a possible move back to Brisbane.

Ben claims that he is homesick, and is starting to get sick of going to the Gold Coast every week just to see his wife and kids. So (puts on Danny Weidler voice...) the EXCLUSIVE is that Ben Hannant may return home to the Brisbane Broncos. He is also willing to take a pay cut.

If Ben does return home, it will be a carbon copy of Denan Kemp. He was homesick as well and wanted to return home

And by the way, what Daniel P said is possibly true, Ivan Henjak has expressed interest into luring Tim Smith to the club... but his main question was how would he would use him.
