Solve x^2 + 2x + 1 = 0?

if ^ represents to the power of... then...

(-1)^2 + 2(-1) + 1 = 0

1 + (-2) + 1 = 0

which is true. if it doesn't represent that and I'm being stupid, just ignore this. Gave it a shot! :P

x = - 1

factor

x^2 + 2x +1 = 0

(x+1)(x+1) = 0

x= -1

x²+2x+1=0

this factors out to

(x+1)(x+1)=0

(x+1)²=0

x= -1

x^2 + 2x + 1 = (x+1)^2

x = -1

( x + 1 ) ( x + 1 ) = 0

x = - 1

there should be two roots, that ie x= -1 repeat.
