Is this a black widow? Pic included.?

Found under my pool filter cover - red hourglass clearly on belly, but on back had a line of red dots?

We live in Maryland.

Yup. You do sometimes get the red dots on the upper surface as well, but not often - the Australian Redback is the only widow that has a red design on the back as a normal part of the pattern. You always go by the red belly marking, as that is diagnostic for a widow in North America. It can be a little variable, too, by the way, but the general shape will be there.

Widows make good pets, as long as you keep them in the terrarium. The greatest advantage is, if she should die, most people won't be too upset about it...

That is a black widow because of the red hourglass.
