Hi, there are plenty of good holiday destinations in Wales and plenty of variation.
Where you choose depends on a number of things e.g. what kind of activities you enjoy.
Lonely Planet recently voted Machynlleth in Mid Wales as the number 1 destination, followed by Cardiff, then Gower, Brecon Beacons and Builth Wells. As someone who has gorwn up in the Machynlleth area I might be biased(!) but I would certainly recommend the area if you like the countryside, walking, cycling etc. It is also the Ancient Capital of Wales so plenty of history in the area as well. There are plenty of activities and attractions and a choice of sandy beaches within half an hour's drive. If you need somewhere to stay I'd recommend looking at the Best of Wales website, they've got a selection of good quality cottages in the area.
If you need any more tips on your holiday in Wales let me know.
P.S. Ignore the handful of nonconstructive, negative comments - the Welsh are very friendly people and we'll make you feel very welcome, wherever you choose to go!

Cardiff is the second city you'll reach on the M4 when you arrive in Wales. Newport is the first, but I think it has very little to offer. Cardiff is big enough to have plenty of things to see and do, castles, museums, rivers, parks, bars, clubs, restaurants, nightlife, hotels, concerts, theatre etc and is a good base for seeing more of the countryside and coast. It's pretty close to Barry and Penarth which have some nice and some tacky bits; also close to Porthkerry and Goldcliff which are nice park and wildlife areas with interesting but shingle beaches. For better sandy beaches you'll have to keep going further West to Porthcawl, then on to Gower and West Wales.

Hi there.
It depends if you are mobile or not!
North Wales is beautiful and has a whole lot packed into a small area.
You should allow one day for Snowdon and the area.
You should travel the Conwy valley, starting at Betws-y-Coed and travellling the B-road through Trefriw and ending at Conwy itself, a stunning little town with its harbour, old walls, castle and bridges (plus good fish and chips) - another day.
You should visit Llandudno, both Great Orme and Little Orme, will fill another day.
In the area between these centres are castles (Caernarvon especially good), waterfalls (notable Abergwyngregyn), walks (everywhere), funfairs (Rhyl), zoos (Conwy and Chester is near).
What do you want? Base yourself somewhere nice, say near Llandudno and you will fill every day easily. Anglesey with its stunning beaches, Holy Mountain, Beaumaris Castle, Sea Zoo, is a brilliant location by itself.
South Wales is beautiful too, base near Tenby and enjoy the coast, but it is more spread out and difficult to get around.
Cheers, Steve.

either tenby in west wales,
or in south wales u have barry island, (where gavin and stacey is set, if u ever have watched that lol) ,may be going this weekend if its hot :P ,not far from cardiff either so if can travel car ,or even bus or train to cardiff is like 15 mins, loads to do, or porwthcawl is similar to barry,

Wales is boring for a holiday

I had a lovely holiday in Mid Wales. It wasn't crowded and there was beautiful mountain scenery everywhere.
edit:
The locals were friendly too!

Tenby, Pembrey, Porthcawl.
Lol all the people who are saying stay clear or Wales because they are unfriendly have just got to be English. The English are the only rude, ignorant, selfish unfriendly people in the whole of Britian.
They are just p!ssed because they are the most hated country! :-)

I'd steer clear of Wales if I was you, grey, rainy, miserable unfriendly people ....... I could go on. Not a happy experience.
