Judging from the strength and the depth of the squad, Spain is definitely among the best, if not the top, among the 32 teams in 2010 World Cup.
They have not one, not two, but three world-class goalkeepers in Casillas, Reina & Valdes; possibly the best trio of keepers in a WC squad in history.
They have Barca duo of Puyol & Pique at the heart of the defence with ferocious wing backs like Ramos & Arbeloa running up and down to help the attack.
They have Xabi Alonso, whom I think is one of the best defensive midfielders today.
They have yet another Barca duo of Xavi & Iniesta, with the likes of Fabregas & David Silva ready to supplement them.
They also have arguably the most fearsome striking duo in David Villa & Fernando Torres.
All these with the likes of Albiol, Marchenna & Pedro waiting in the sidelines for their chance to shine.
And perhaps most importantly of all, they have a superbly-experienced coach in former Real Madrid manager Vicente del Bosque.
It is thus no wonder at all that most people have put Spain as their team to beat in 2010 World Cup in 3 weeks’ time.
HOWEVER,
I disagree with this general opinion.
Obviously people are carried away by the hype of Spain being the reigning champions of the previous major international tournament.
Everyone wanted France to win 2002 WC, Brazil in 2006 WC & Italy in Euro 2008 just because they had won their last major tournaments respectively. But in the end no one made it past the quarter finals.
The huge amount of pressure for the Spanish team will be their main undoing. Besides, while their group stages draw is very favorable they will meet either Brazil or Portugal or Cote d'Ivoire in the second round.
And many key players are racing against time to regain match fitness, including Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas & Torres.
I bet Spain will not make it past the quarter finals. To Spanish fans, I'm not against Spain, just making a conclusion out of the history, draws & injury update.

Spain will either be knocked out in the Semifinal or be in the final. But knowing Spain, they can have a bad day sometimes like when they lost to America last year.
I'm supporting England this summer but I have a feeling that Argentina will win it even though they have the worlds worst manager. No one thought Italy would win it 4 years ago.
I don't really see Brazil winning it for some reason. Probably because they've won it 5 times. Italy's squad is too old and lack youth. Frances squad is going backwards with their lunatic manager and England are pretty bad at penalties. Germany are too unknown I think. The Dutch are like the English, great squad but never win anything.
I think the best final would be Brazil vs. Spain no doubt but I would like to watch England vs. France with England winning 2-1. Rooney and Crouch grabbing the goals before a late consolation goal by obviously Thierry Henry. But we all know that will never happen.

I think BULLS*IT.
Spain have a very strong chance, and though Xavi, Iniesta and Torres have had injury troubles, they have still been playing very well. Besides, with midfielders like Xabi Alonso, David Silva, De la red, Marcos Senna, and Cesc Fabregas, Spain can manage without a few key players.
Oh and for the record, France won the 98 WC and went on to win their next major competition, the Euro 2000, so you're wrong, if a team wins a major tournament it does not mean they will lose their next one.

@ Vesko, you should proof-read your response before sending...you just said Spain will face fierce competition from ...Spain. Uuuuh.
What do I think?
I think the Final will be Spain vs. Brazil...and I definitely hope Spain wins. I'm sick of Brazil (their time is up). It may not even be Brazil...it could be France or England..but I definitely think Spain will be in the final.
@ my England fan (I'm a Brit too), France & England can't both be in the final because the brackets aren't arranged that way : (. Wishful thinking tho! Cheers.

I say pretty far. Their group is manageable, probably top of it, then probably semi-finals. I doubt for a final, Spain are definately a top team, but will face ferocious competition from Argentina, The Netherlands, Germany, Srbia and Spain.

Spain will get pretty far; they have a strong team. They could win it or be one of the final teams, but you never know. I was born in Uruguay so I will be rooting strongly for them, and will also root for the U.S. Both Uruguay and USA can get out of the first round. The U.S. have a slightly easier group, but both can advance, but I'm not sure how much farther,

I totally agree with you!!! Except your prediction. I think they will go far. I hope they win it all but i see them getting knocked out by a team of their stature like Argentina, Brazil, Netherlands maybe Germany again. If that's the case it won't be until semi's I'm sure.

I think it will be amazing! I hope after this people will let go all the stupid prejudges and see that south africa is not a country where everyone is skinny and poor.
