what are cookies and how do i get rid of them?
The computer I am using is second hand. I bought it off a guy who repairs computers. Whoever he bought it from was heavily into porn. Took me 45 minutes to delete those web sites. But I keep getting mail I don't want. Sending them to spam doesn't work. I get the same message under a different name. My friend said I need to go to the control panel and remove cookies. I'm having some performance issues. She said that cookies might be the problem. So what do I look for and how do I get rid of them?

ccleaner or advance system care free does the trick. I pretty sure it has a bunch of virus too. Shows you how to remove rogues, but works for other viruses too (By me):

Use combofix from bleepingcomputer.com, then download malwarbytes(you may need to rename the installer/setup to something like winlogon.exe to be able to run or install it) from malwarebytes.com or softpedia.com, then clean the rest of the virus with superantispyware and Hitman Pro 3.5 from softpedia.com/cnet.com and just in case you do have a rootkit on your system use GMER from majorgeek.com(Use gmer to scan and anything in red delete.)
Future Protection use this wizard to recommend security protection for your system:

or go to safe mode and then do the above:
To get into Safe Mode with Networking:
1. Log out and reboot your machine.
2. When the machine starts the reboot sequence, press the F8 key repeatedly.
3. Select Safe Mode with Networking from the resulting menu.

The procedure for removing cookies varies depending on the browser and level you are using but you can find the cookie file where you access your temporary files. You can delete the temp. and cookie files by checking the appropriate boxes in your Tools then Options or Preferences button. Good luck!

Cookies track the websites you have been to.
Do you have IE? Go to tools, Internet Options, click on delete browsing history.

For God' sake get a clue. Reformat your hard drive and reinstall Windows. Why would you not do this after buying someone else's computer. If you don't have a Windows disc ask your "friend who repairs computers" to do it for you. If he also had a clue, he would have done this before he sold it to you.
