Need a laptop for college?

OK, I need a laptop for college and really don't know where to start looking. Price limit about 2k. 15 inch screen at the largest. Optical drive not 100% necessary. Want something decently fast. Basically, just list some models with their pros and cons that would work.

Well you won't necessarily want a 2k laptop for college as it could get stolen, then there's the chance of it getting damaged, etc, etc.

All computer makers make good and bad laptops, just check out CNET.com for reviews or whatever.

When it comes down to it is PC vs Mac really

PC costs less, has more software comparability, free anti-virus is available, parts are cheaper for repair and or upgrading.

Mac less vulnerable to viruses, "longer lasting" battery

If its the operating system you want Mac OS X can be installed on PCs, and Windows 7 can be installed on Macs. PCs can also run Linux without voiding the warranty.

I would recommend a Mac Book Pro. Even the basic models are fast enough for anything you throw at them. i am a student myself and i have to say most of the students who buy PCs eventually buy a Mac Book, me being one of them. seriously from a fellow student i would definitely recommend an apple laptop for college any model will be more than enough. Good Luck!

I think you should check out Sony Vaio or Dell Studio XPS laptops.

  • Do you want my DV6 HP notebook? Great condition, selling for around $600.

    I'm switching to a Mac.
