  • Sony NEX vs Nikon D5100?

I'm looking to upgrade my camera and have narrowed it down to a D5100, NEX-F3, or NEX-5N. A NEX-6 would be ideal, but I don't want to drop a grand on a casual hobby. The D5100 has everything I want at a price I like, however the size/weight is an issue. Both NEXs have image quality comparable to the D5100, but the F3 lacks a built-in viewfinder and the 5N lacks both a built-in flash and viewfinder.

So basically my question is for people who have gone from an SLR to an NEX; do you find the lack of a built in flash and/or viewfinder restrictive?

  • Best laptop under $2k?

1st I had a dell, which was a complete POS. I have an HP now, which is much better, but still glitchy (shuts off randomly, freezes up). Anyway, I want a reliable computer with a 13-15" high def screen, thin (<1"), relatively lightweight, at least 5 hours of battery life, and solid build quality. I use it for pretty much everything except gaming; photo/video editing, document drafting, watching videos, playing music, etc.

Obviously mac has several laptops that fit my criteria but I'm interested to know if any windows laptops would. Open to any brand except Dell

  • Best pair of headphones under 300?

Looking for a nice pair of over or on the ear head phones. Sound quality, portability (need to fold up, carrying case would be nice), and comfort are what I'm looking for. I listen to a wide variety of music; everything from the Red Hot Chili Peppers to Skrillex to Method Man to Bill Whithers, so I want a nice overall range. These will also be used in a school library some of the time, so I need something with a closed back.

I tried the Beats Executive, which have dismal sound quality for the price, so I'm not interested in anything made by monster.

    What do you recommend YA?

  • Beats Executive vs Bose QC15 vs V-Moda M80?

So I bought a pair of Beats Executive today. Very comfortable, attractive finish, and good build quality, but I feel I may have paid a lot for the fancy box. I'm considering returning them, since sound quality didn't exactly blow me out of the water. Can anyone with personal experience recommend a pair of headphones? In particular, I'm interested in the Bose and the V-Moda listed above, but open to anything under $300 that's relatively portable, comfortable, and has great sound quality.

  • How to delete itunes duplicates?

Itunes has duplicated every single song in the library. it's not the music files, since on the computer there are ~30gb and itunes says it has ~60gb. I tried deleting all the music, and the library files, then reloading music, but that didn't help. Whats the quickest way to fix this? Manual deletion is not an options and everywhere else I've looked needs an external program installed to delete dupes.

    thanks

  • Car vibrations at highway speed?

I have a 2001 Volvo S40. Today, as well yesterday I noticed a heavy vibration at higher speeds (80+mph). The car does not vibrate at idle and has no check engine light on. Occasionally the car misses with fast acceleration, however this was not felt while at cruising speed (80-85). In addition the vibration is not consistent. What are possible causes of this?

  • Pentax K-x lens compatibility?

Can lenses (ones that can autofocus) from a 35 film SLR be used on a K-x? Also can the same thing be done with flashes; ones meant for film slr's be used on digital?

  • Digital SLR Question...?

OK, so I'm in the market for an entry level DSLR. I've pretty much narrowed it down to a Pentax K-x with a Canon XSi as an alternative. What I want I know, is how the Pentax performs in real life. Also, since Canon has discontinued the XSi, would that be a reason not to buy it? I tried out the D3000 and XS in stores and both felt too plastic-y for my taste; need a rubber grip. If you have any other suggestions for a DSLR, throw 'em out there. Budget about $700.

  • Need a laptop for college?

OK, I need a laptop for college and really don't know where to start looking. Price limit about 2k. 15 inch screen at the largest. Optical drive not 100% necessary. Want something decently fast. Basically, just list some models with their pros and cons that would work.

  • Homemade white glue recipe?

Need a fairly large quantity of glue for a project and was wondering if anyone has a recipe. Would like something similar to Elmers Glue All, but I'm not sure if that's possible. Glue needs to be somewhat water resistant, so no flour and water. If have or know of a recipe that works, throw it out.

What are the regulations and legalities concerning phone surveys? Specifically, is the survey company legally required to disclose who's paying for the survey when asked? Also, if you could link to your source, it would be nice.

  • Montana colleges MSU, UMT?

If your familiar with Montana colleges, which do you think is better, the University of Montana at Missoula or Montana State University at Bozema? Also which is a nicer town?

  • Which photo is better?

Submitting my best 5 photos to a contest and I don't want to submit the same shot, so which do you think is better? The B&W or color? Personally, I prefer the color, but I want to hear some other peoples' opinions. Also would love criticism from professional photographers (if any available) or anyone for that matter.
