How to deal with traffic?

I am a GA native (Atlanta area), and I have been working downtown for the past 6 months (I live in Lawrenceville about 30 miles away. Traffic here sux and it's going to be the death of me unless I find a way to cope. Don't suggest getting a job closer to home, with the unemployments at what they are, that's a retarded suggestion.

Well here are a few things I do. Now I don't drive in traffic everyday but definitely more than weekly. That is a decently long commute and you should consider moving closer if it is going to be a career, but anyway here you go:

To get through traffic faster head towards the right when coming up on an offramp and quickly going back left when passing the onramp.

To help make it not feel as long, take up something you can do while driving like singing or rapping, or even just recording mental notes (daily diary or something), this way your ride has a purpose for more than just getting to work or home.

Also find away to start earlier or later so that you're not commuting during rush hour.

And occasionally you can take surface streets and get there in a comparable or even faster time, and you feel like you're going somewhere for the first time, so the driving is not as mindless.

Now, I live in San Diego where surface streets are much more scenic and most likely faster during traffic, but it's worth a shot.

And if it the traffic is really that bad, then use some public transportation and you might get there faster.

Try listen to books on cd or talk radio (preferably something that does not make your blood boil stay away from politics). Make sure you leave in plenty of time. Realize that fighting it really gets you no where but a few feet in front of the next guy. I use to tease my husband and ask him why he let all those people drive on his road. Everybody else is stuck there just like you.

I wish you luck, I have seen Atlanta traffic...your right it sux.

What is even MORE retarded is that you are kickin against the goads! There is NOTHING you can do about traffic...let it slide...chill...and stop and think about everybody else going thru the same thing. SO...if you don't want to change jobs, or can't find an alternate route, get some cd's and learn a new language or brush up on your skills with the opposite sex, or W/E! You have no choice but to deal with it! or die, I guess...lol

Find a residence closer to work? Either that or curse yourself for getting a job so far from home? Sorry

Leave to work at an earlier time. Try to get there in 45 minutes, instead of 45 seconds.
