cleaning fish tank that previously had mice in it?

hey

i've had my goldfish daphne for about 15 years now. recently my father got an old fish tank off one of his friends and gave it to me. it's huge, and daphne will have a great time swimming in it, the problem is that it had mice in it before hand, and i'm wondering how will i clean so it will be suitable for my fish and not have any mice germs in it.

my father suggested milton and i had a look at that in the shop, but it says it's harmful to "aquatic organisms", so i don't want to risk it.

any [non toxic to fish] ideas? thanks!

I had the same problem, the best thing to do without hurting the fish is just to wash the tank out with hot water and sponge it down. you can towel dry, or let it sit for a little, and you should wash it out once more just to be safe. After you know its clean, what i did was i filled it up with water, with the rocks in it and i put my filter on ( if you have one) then your fish can be put inside. It worked for me but you could add in a little soap when you are cleaning it so it won't hurt your fish.

    hope i helped :)
