What should/would you do in this situation?

My friend's car had an electrical fire they said.

Aftwards their fan compressor would only turn off if they unplugged the battery. The Gears weren't shifting right. Their car stalled once. Their Vents weren't blowing air. There was other stuff that they didn't recap with me now.

They went to... where ever the hell they went. The people worked on my friend's car for 8 days.

They replaced the wires. The fan Compressor fan now doesn't run when the car is turned off ( aka need the battery unplugged to turn off).

Everything else is still broken. The gear shift is worse. The car stalls every time they take their foot off the gas. They messed up the Dashboard. Nothing on the Dashboard is working properly ( if at all).. you know things like Speedometer, Fuel Gauge, Temp. Gauge, etc.

It sounds like, to me, that the place ordered replacement parts, but broke the replacements and broke some other things trying to work on things. I am not sure because my friend is confusing me.

My friend paid the full bill though and then they had trouble just getting it a mile away from whatever place worked on it. They have more problems now then before.

This car is Pre Computer in the Car I believe. I don't know the Make and Model.

Update:

I asked what would/should you do in this situation.. then the descriptions/details their situation for you to use to answer the question.

In the 90's through 00's Mechanics claimed a Computer was suddenly added to cars. The date varied by model and company. But the Mechanics would claim things like " I need $5,000 dollars to replace a chip in the computer cars have now". It's hard to find a sane Mechanic? :( So Car is pre late 90's.

    Ok a couple things...

On a car a fan and compressor are two totally different things. You have electrical or engine driven fans to help keep the car cool, mainly at idle. And you have a compressor for your air con. Two separate components, so im unsure which one you mean. Neither should continue to run with the battery disconnected.

Also, what do you mean by "Pre-computer?" I can only interpret that as it does NOT have an engine management system run by a computer, therefore it only has wiring for your gauges, lighting, heating controls, starting/charging and carburettor controls.

By the sounds of it, this car is an automatic. I still think this car has a computer because cars that were made before electronic fuel injection had vacuum controls on the auto so it would still be ok, assuming it was ok BEFORE the fire.

A fire that started on a wiring harness is bad news. Think about all those wires bound together to go to separate components being burnt out all at once. I would imagine this would cause numerous problems...like what you have at the moment. it's not necessarily that they used old parts and stuffed it up on the way to repairing.

An electrical fire is catastrophic to a sophisticated and very sensitive computer. A fire would have caused wires to get very hot and fuse with other wires (causing many shorts) which would in turn blow out fuses and internal parts of computers. Imagine trying to connect all these burnt, melted wires back and hoping that the internal structure of your computers would be perfectly untouched.

    Unlikely.

They should not have touched this car. Even if you replace the whole wiring harness of the car, you just have no idea what else was damaged. It's a job an auto electrician would probably end up driving off the cliff over. It's a shame your friend spent so much money for it to be in a barely driveable condition. i would say she should just accept it as a write-off and get another car.

If you take it to someone else, i guarantee you will get the same problem. and if you do get it all fixed, send me the number of the electrician that did it.

EDIT: well it's hard to answer something that doesn't make sense, hence the longer answer. And i DID tell you what this person should do. And if it was my car, again, i would still scrap it. By the way, there's no such thing as pre late 90's. Take a pick, not both. Your english skills need some refinement...and understanding of cars.

None of your details make sense, that's why you're not getting the answers you want. Mechanics aren't insane, they just find it difficult to explain to people what's wrong with their car, when your average person has no idea how a car works.

If you want a short answer to your question, I would have scrapped the car. Electrical fires are bad news, they not only destroy wiring, but they can also destroy components. This is because the insulation melts off the wires, then all the exposed wires touch one another, causing a myriad of electrical shorts. You could spend a LOT of money having someone replace a wiring harness, only to find out that most of the components associated with that harness don't work anymore. Then you end up replacing MORE crap, not knowing for sure where it's gonna end.

If your friend had insurance, they should have just told them about it, the insurance company would most likely have written off the car. If you're saying the car is a late '90s model, the cost of repairs will probably exceed the value of the car.

Take an over-the-counter experiment. a million) If you're no longer pregnant then take this scare as a finding out enjoy and do not have unprotected intercourse till you're capable to manage the penalties or something problems that can gift itself. two) Then if you're pregnant abortion isn't an choice and must in no way be. You and your boyfriend each made the determination to have unprotected intercourse so consequently you each have got to manage the penalties. Remember that it takes 2 to have a youngster you didn't do that all in your possess. If you can not maintain the little one then supply it up for adoption. I have heard many folks say that it's okay to have an abortion when you have been raped or some thing like that however even in the ones instances abortion is NEVER the reply. Sounds like it's your friends problem not yours. When there's a fire in the bay insurance companies almost always total the car. You pretty much have to replace everything and redo the wiring completely to get to 100% in most cases.

You need to try to restate what your asking, your question makes no sense. There is no such thing a compressor fan.

Sounds like who ever worked on it to a real bad situation, and made it minimally good, so the car could be driven. Obviously not professionals.
