I would imagine that you'd be ok. If you are raising them from goslings and imprint them well, they will know where home is. It might be better since you want them for guard birds, to raise them from goslings, provide a fenced in goose yard with a pool of some fashion and then they will stay home. There are many varieties of geese that are decent pets. However, some geese can be very mean even when raised from goslings. I'd do your research and pick a breed known for a placid temperament when properly imprinted.

Even pet geese will alert you to intruders. Also as an FYI swans are big bucks (around $700 us for a baby) and they are mean mean mean. So unless you want to do tons of research and get into showing and breeding swans for the money and you have the money to invest, and are willing to put up with a huge bird with anger management issues, I'd stay away from swans.

Depends on what size the lake is . If it's something like one of the Great Lakes they will probably just swim away, Have you considered Guinea hens ?

i'm uncertain, yet from what i've got heard, ducks might supply a good chew in the event that they get territorrial. possibly a goose may be a good look after yet you extremely might desire to have confidence it, in spite of everything, ducks are not the best issues interior the international. yet i assume it extremely is okay, my dogs isn't the best factor interior the international, and he makes a super look after dogs.

I think if they are happy and have a good environment they will stay. Another good idea is swans. They are extremely territorial.
