About the oil spill in the Caribbean?

Do you think the US has the will and expertise to ever fix this problem, given that it gave the permission for the drilling to be done. I mean, should a government ever give permission for a company to do something that it (the government) does not have the ability to ever fix.

What you're saying is an impossibility for any government.

You're saying that the government would be able to do and fix absolutely anything that company of any kind would do. First of all, that's impossible. They're the government, not a corporation. Second, we have government organizations whose job it is to make sure problems don't happen in the first place. It is an unfortunate fact that corporations will dodge these laws and falsify files to that the government is not aware of a potential problem. Third, if they had the capability of fixing everyone's problem, then no one would have any impetus to *not* have a problem. Hey, wow, the government will just step in and fix it for us. Fourth, you are imply that *we the people* be ready to take care of every possible problem, which means paying for everything that would have to be ready to fix any possible problem, which is also obviously impossible. Finally, the government does what it can when massive problems arise, unforeseen problems. Like the federal Superfund sites. Horribly contaminated areas of land and water that are being cleaned over periods of time measured in decades -- and paid for by the companies that did the dumping, as per the government slapping them around for having violated dozens of laws.
