[Soul Silver] Espeon or Umbreon?
I have the chance to evolve my Eevee into either an Espeon or an Umbreon, but I'm not sure which one should I choose. Espeon has good attack stats, which helps finish the battle faster, but Umbreon has good defense stats, which make it last long in battle and could buy time to revive my other Pokemon which might have fainted.
Here's my team if it helps ;
Quilava (I stopped his evolution. He's not going to evolve. js.)
Lugia
Gyarados
Ampharos
Eevee (Gonna turn him into either an Espeon or Umbreon.)
??? (Still deciding whether to leave the spot open or have a HM slave.)

Well.. both of them are good. If you're really stuck breed Eevee (with a ditto) to get another, and get both. If not... then look below
Personally I have Espeon on my HG team. Espeon has a good moveset when used well.
Calm Mind
Substitute
Psychic
Shadow Ball
Basic Special Sweeper, sets up with a Substitue, gets time to get in 1 or 2 calm minds, then starts it's sweep. It has a very high SpA, but gets knocked out easily
Umbreon, on the other hand, is an "Annoyer", with a 95 Base Hp, 110 base Def, and a whopping 130 base SpD. A big wall, that can take many hints.
A good moveset for Umbreon is:
Curse (boosts Attack and Defence a ton, good first move)
Payback (STAB (Same.Type.Attack.Bonus) base power 100 if Curse is used)
Wish (Heals pokemon's HP 50% whoever is in by the 2nd turn) !!!OR!!! Toxic
Baton Pass (Gets Umbreon out of battle safely, and lets another take the WISH move)
So overall Espeon is your Sweeper, and Umbreon is your wall/annoyer. Either or is a great choice. Espeon helps a lot in the E4, dealing with Koga's poison types, and Will's Psychic types with Shadow Ball.

I would say Umbreon, for a few reasons:
1] With nice attack EV Training, Umbreon can take some decent damage AND deal it. My Umbreon single-handedly took down Red's Snorlax, while taking a few Giga Impacts. I'm not sure how you decided to train your Eevee, but with a good moveset [say, Sucker Punch, Bite/Crunch, Faint Attack, and Moonlight for HP recovery] I think you'll do fine with him anyways.
2] You already have Lugia as a pretty powerful psychic type, and with an Umbreon it isn't necessary to have your Gyrados learn a Dark Move, and keep an excellent water/flying moveset, with maybe a dragon move if you'd like.
3] I personally favor Umbreon, I mean, how cool looking is he? Awesome, I know. xD
4] It sounds like on your team you may need a more defensive-sided pokemon to even it out. Well, it does depend on your open slot choice. Or if you decide to put a slave to work.

I'd have to say espeon. Like a person said above, gyrados can learn dark moves. Espeon can be a special sweeper. The last slot, you can replace with a wall pokemon like snorlax or blissey.
Please answer mine about Pokemon: Answer the question at the very bottom, below the sentence that's in capital letters!

I would say Espeon. Gyarados can learn dark moves such as bite.
