New York or California, in either you have "world capitals" and back country, tiny towns, strongholds of xenophobic conservatism.

California easily; the central valley is conservative, the northern coastal area is very liberal/leftwing, and the southern part is mostly split in between

New York has a huge world class city, while Midwestern States have cities that are much smaller and more people friendly.

The south has its charm, while the west has its picturesque scenery.

America is to large to have a representative microcosm.

It is usually consider to be New York but California is often cited also

I agree, America will always e multicultural.

That's one of the things, the other being our secular Constitution, that makes us great.
