Need Registry *Repair*Tool?
Is there a tool that actually *repairs* registry *errors*? I've looked at about a dozen tools that claim to fix errors that can cause incorrect operation and all they actually do is remove keys that go to non-existent files. Well, since those files don't exist, those keys don't do anything. So removing them is *not* going to fix any errors.
I have a Windows XP system with some registry damage. I believe what happened is it was infected by malware and the malware replaces some Active Directory 'InprocServer32' keys in the registry to ensure that the malware would get launched. Then, a tool removed the malware but left the InprocServer32 keys. Then a registry cleaner remove the InprocServer32 keys because the files they went to were gone. But now, with both the malware and the registry keys gone, active directory doesn't work.
These are the most basic keys that every Windows XP machine should have and any decent registry *REPAIR* tool would make sure they're there and put them there if they're not. But I can't find even *one* that does.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Free is preferred, because most paid registry "optimizers" or "fixers" are scams, in my experience.
As its name suggests, CCleaner cleans the registry. Cleaning will not add missing entries nor will it fix incorrect problems. Again, I need to *FIX* problems, not remove harmless entries that don't do anything.
Adrian: That is not true. Most DLLs internally record what registry entries they need to function. The 'regsvr32' command will ask the DLL to put those entries back. Also, just knowing that the machine is, say, XP Pro SP2, you can know what registry entries are needed for core system DLLs such as 'adsnt.dll'.
I wouldn't touch Reimage. I see bad reviews from objective and neutral sources and good reviews that all have affiliate links back to the manufacturer. I refuse on principle to buy products that pay people to give bogus reviews.

If a key was overwritten by malware, there is no tool on earth (except a system restore) that can ever know what used to be the original values for that key.
It would be like me asking you, my Startup folder used have a programm running every time I booted, but I changed program name from what it was to CMD.EXE - can you fix it for me?? Can you set it back to the way it was? Obviously, you would have no idea what the previous entry was, unless you had some form of backup to look at.
Check your system restore points, that is your best bet at the moment... You cannot fix something if you do not have all the tools, including backups to fix from....

I dont know if there could be a FIXER tool for the registry. To me i see the registry as the database for the WinXP. I think our prefference for various apps and other extreme/custom customizations, it will be hard to provide a FIX (as in replace the lost key). Such replacement may make the system unstable. If you did take a complete image of the OS recently, then you may just need to restore that image.
Oh how about a complete cleaning of the OS and then do a Repair of the SO with the Repair option of XP install cd? Have u tried that? That could amount to a fix.
Hope you get some intresting ideas.

You can't "fix" registry errors unless you know specifically that there's a problem with one of the keys.
Registry cleaners will look at inconsistencies and issues inside the registry and then remove / change the keys according to what they find. However, if you're getting errors or have problems on your PC that you think are caused by a change of registry setting, the only way to fix that is to use RegEdit.exe (which you can find in C:\Windows\) to fix it.
The only thing I can do is recommend CCleaner as a free tool (Which you are already aware of) and a program called "Frontline Registry Cleaner" which you can get from http://www.fastregistryfixes.com/best_registry_cle...

Reimage can do what you are looking for. Using a huge database of XP internals and common XP programs and functions, it sets values appropriately for all items in the database including registry settings.
Reimage can repair your system even if a repair install fails. It costs a little but it is well worth it to save your data. It takes about 30 minutes and preserves your programs and data. If you are not happy with the results, you don't have to pay and you can reverse any changes that it made. More information here http://www.askthecomputerdoc.com/blog/cant-repair-...

There is no registry optimizer, cleaner, fixer that is going to help you. You are correct, all those programs do is delete entries they think are obsolete. They cannot edit or correct anything. The registry cleaner you used hopefully has the option of restoring what it deleted. I wish I had a good answer for you.

i had these kind of problems before, nowadays i make a restore point before deleting software that may damage my system files, ended having to reinstall my os. if you need to fix your registry then youll need a recovery cd that came with your pc or you can download it, then look how to do it you usually enter some commands and then your set. hope this helps, but specific problems like these always take hours of work, good luck sir !!!
