Muhammad Cartoon controversy. Do Muslims agree that Death Threats against cartoonist is Un-Islamic?

Follow up question regarding concerns raised over Muhammad cartoon.

The following was a response by a well known Muslim leader regarding death threats that the cartoonist received. Do you concur that this is the overall sentiment in the Muslim community:

"While rejecting the cartoon, Hendricks called death threats against the cartoonist "un-Islamic", saying such threats had no place in the religion or society.

"It only implies that Muslims lack the intellect to resolve disagreements through proper dialogue and communication, which is far from the truth."

Update:

Yes Oscar. I am trying to establish whether this is the majority sentiment or whether calls for jihad etc are much more of a threat than people realise.

i didn't read the full article but yeah, i am a muslim and i agree that death threats are considered unislamic. Those people offended and insulted us and our beliefs but there's no way their punishment should be death. Should we kill them for insulting the most peaceful person?? I don't think this will make him happy (pbuh)

I agree death threats are completely "un-Islamic". I do believe this is a very serious issue. I believe the extremist and the anti-Islam will continue to fan the flames of hate, until it finally combust into global chaos.

What started as child's play, is rapidly escalating to a line in the sand, with both side saying "C'mon I dare you to cross it........."Zapiro said his cartoon was not meant to offend Islam, though he wanted it to be "challenging". In reaction to his challenge, some idiots' say " We will kill you for what you have done". What else could we call this?

The general public needs to wake up and realize we are only being used as game pieces in the "media monopoly game". "Stir some scandal" so the public can spend some more money on news and products from internet commercials. It is all a gimmick to the ones making the money.. But to the ignorant and intolerant ,it is a very serious issue. We should all wake up and take warning to what's going on around us before it seriouysly gets out of hand.

I can't believe the answerers above with western names, who think a death threat is on the same level as burning a book or building a mosque. These people are mentally, anally retarded, and should be locked in a room with relatives of victims of Muslim violence.

There are extremists in every religion but there are some other characteristics of the Muslim faith that would be considered to most as unethical. For example, they are taught it is ok to steal and lie to people if they are not Muslim. Non-Muslims are considered lower class citizens and make up less than 1% of the Muslim countries. They are not interested in resolving disagreements. They are interested in either converting or destroying you.

Yes I agree that it is un-Islamic. Good muslims solve conflicts with dialogue, not with death threats.

Yes, l do agree that threats are un-lslamic.

As far as intellect... ANY person who is impassioned about a subject tends to lose their ability to think logically and clearly, especially when they are riled up. People need to shut up, sit back, think and RESPOND instead of reacting to the issue that's upsetting them.

Honestly, I disagree with both the statements.

I am giving my responses below.

    The statement:

"While rejecting the cartoon, Hendricks called death threats against the cartoonist "un-Islamic", saying such threats had no place in the religion or society.

    My response..

And in what kind of society and religion such abuse has any place?

    The statement:

"It only implies that Muslims lack the intellect to resolve disagreements through proper dialogue and communication, which is far from the truth."

My response: Only stupids can call it disagreement. This is persistent abuse of the person whom we love most. It is completely impractical to have dialogues with one who persist on abuse.

Well at least some of them don't. Him getting death threats from Muslims sort of presupposes that.

It seems to be the quietest ones who don't believe in death threats etc.

That whole incident was just ridiculous.
