If you have a dvd-rw (read and write) then you can take the video off of the dvd and edit it on your computer then write it back to the dvd. A dvd-r is your other choice but it will not work to put something else on it, you can only burn something on it once. If it is not a dvdrw then this will not work. Also an rw will erase the information that is on it when a new video is put on it, this includes if it is the same video but just edited if you were wondering.

You need a dvd ripper software to copy the video from DVD to computer hard drive at first, then you can use windows movie maker to edit the video, And here is a guide will teach you how to do that

If the dvd is a DVD-RW you can edit the contents on it. If not then it would be best to just copy the contents and then edit them on the computer and re burn them onto another disk

You'd have to rip it off the DVD to your computer, then edit, then if you want to burn it to a new CD.

you need to rip it to your computer, Ripping DVD I usually use TOP DVD Ripper Standard, because it lets me rip DVD easily and fast, and it allows me rip DVD (DVD-9, DVD-5 and IFO image files) to AVI, MPEG, MP4, H.264/AVC, DivX/XviD, WMV, FLV, MKV, MOV, 3GP, SWF, MP3, WAV, WMA, OGG, and RA, etc.
So I can watch DVD movie on my portable player like iPod, iPhone, etc. conveniently. It can split the DVD into chapters, and I can get my favorite ones. In addition, it can snapshot the images in preview, and has other handy functions.
Hope it is helpful for you, good luck.
