per cent means 'out of 100'

so 17.5 out of 100 is written as 17.5 divided by 100

    therefore

    17.5/100 * 2.15 = £0.38

    add the 0.38 to 2.15 = £2.53

To add 17.5% all you need to do is multiply the £2.15 by .175 (a percentage in decimal form) which gives you .376

You now add the .376 to the £2.15 and you get 2.526 you can round this up to £2.53

    Hope that helps

Divide the £2.15 by 100 to get 1%, then times the 1% figure by 17.5 to get 17.5%.

Add the 17.5% figure to the original £2.15 and you get the total.

    £2.15 x 1'175 = £2.526 or rounded to £2.53

    Note 1% =1/100 i.e 1% of £100 =£1

    5% of £100 = £5

    17.5% of £100 = £17.5
