    On your XP desktop go to My Computer

    Right click Shared Documents->properties

    under the Sharing tab, tick the box marked "share this folder on the network"

    also tick the box to allow other users (that's YOU!) to make changes

    click apply, OK

    make sure the firewall allows file and printer sharing

    Do you have different admin names/passwords on each? How are you trying to log into your desktop from your laptop? What method or software are you using, or are you simply trying to map a drive?
