Quattron , the new TV from sharp. Is this total bull s.?

They claim that their new tv makes yellow light, so it is better than TVs that use red green and blue dots. The people who watch it have only red ,green, and blue cones in their eyes. there are no cones that sense yellow but not the other colors. The sensation of yellow is the effect of the red and green cones being stimulated at the same time. Just like what happens when we see orange, amber, or chartruse, so yellow LEDs can't improve the color quality.

You are on to something there. Another thing to consider is that no TV programs are encoded with a discrete yellow channel.

The theory is that they can create a wider range of colors in the color space, however you have noticed that the gains would be minimal at best.

All these answers are great, it is total bull. When using light the Primary colors are red green and blue, every color can be derived from those three. The only possible difference of adding yellow, (which technically would be red and green) would be over-saturated yellows.

Just wanted to hop in and prevent sharp and other manufacturers from using phony science to sell things.

Also watch out for Dynamic Contrast Ratio, it's a phony number that takes into account the screen being off.

TV manufacture have many option to do what there want. usually maker will ADD in some so call " new technologies ".,will such new technologies helps to improve the quality ? is all depend ! some times only on the " paper " YES. but to our eye may not get any difference. however , we cannot said such technologies don't make any difference ! manufactures able to PROOFED to you on the Equipment.

buy an TV . is better JUDGE by you own eye. not form specifications ! maker always play around with specification by difference / own measurement standard. unless you are really Professional .

You are right. Furthermore, everything we have now is encoded in the RGB colorspace or some derivative of it, not RGBY. So adding yellow is pointless. It would be like if someone introduced an HDTV in 1980, a time when there were no digital or high-definition television signals.
