Have you ever worked at a start up company? I need your advice?

I responded to a Monster.com ad that offered $16 per hour. I got a call back in 2 weeks offering me another position I didn't know about except for the brief explaination over the phone. I've worked there for one week and I'm very skeptical. I hear that they just opened a few months ago and they fired a lot of people one week ago. They also cut my wage to $12 hourly for this other position. I also found out today they do not offer benefits. Suggestions? Advice? Thanks!

HI Beauty Queen again. I just answered one of your other questions regarding making enemies at your job your at now. So now on to this question. No I have not worked for a company that just started up. But boy would I enjoy that. There is so much potential there . So much you can bring to a new company like that. You can lead the way in alot of areas and a new company would be more interested in idea's I would think than the companies that have been in business for 50 + years as they are set in there ways and are afraid of change.

As far as you not being payed for what you agreed to. Do you have your letter of acceptance for this job. or job offer in writing? If this was verbal, I would sit down with the hiring manager who offered you this salary or your emediate person you report to and ask what is up .( use your own wording) and state that you were hired for this position and this was the amount you were hired for why has this changed? also you were told at the interview you would have benefits and you understand now that you will not be having them again why? then here what they have to say. ( perhaps the company is suffering you said there new and they just fired a alot of people) perhaps there trying to stay afloat.

Then it will be your call to re-negotiate if you wish. If you think there is potential in this company when they get back on there feet. Then perhaps you may want to take a cut now TEMPORARY and put down a time frame and have it IN WRITING this time. And once the company is doing better they can re pay you back for the months you had to take the $12.00 rate . Let them know if you think this could be a good company in the future, you believe in them and the product and your just going through growing pains and you'll suppor them on the fact that they are honest with you and play fair ball too.

I read one of your other notes about how your having trouble at home with Dad and you need a job. . Perhaps you could keep this job but look on the side for something better and someone who won't renege on there promise. and what ever you do in the future ALWAYS get your offer letter in writing and have both parties sign for it. You can email me if you need more information or would like to talk about your work and your father. I understand you :-)

All the best hang in there.

Sounds like a risky company that isn't really providing for you. If you have other options, take them.
