Will North Korea and South Korea go to war?

Will they go to war over this ship sinking?

If they do, would any country come in on North Korea's side? Why or why not?

Would America come in on South Korea's side?

China has come out that they won't back NK so I think that they will back down from their stance as in a real war, they don't have a chance without China. SK does not really want war so they will try to get some assurance that this won't happen again..

    It is all about China.

China also does not want the NK taken over as this would put SK & the US on their border and they don't want us there. They also don't want a ton of NK refugees fleeing over the border ..

This one could lead to something because people were killed, but it is something that goes on almost every year and has off and on for years. Last year or the year before they exploded an underground nuclear device around this time and on the 4th of July they were shooting missiles into the Pacific and there was a lot of talk about a war. Over the last few years they have done something at least once a year, and often close to US holidays and Memorial Day is coming up Monday.

But even back as far as the late 1960's (I think 1968), the North Koreans captured the US Navy intelligence ship, the USS Pueblo and held it's crew captive for months. We were at the height of the war in Vietnam and didn't go to war over it.

America would go to war on South Korea's side no doubt, we have thousands of US troops in South Korea and if South Korea were hit, it could be either a direct hit on a US base or effect the US service personnel, depending on the nature of the attack (since they have nuclear weapons) China is the one most likely to come to North Korea's aid, but they would not want to go to war against their number one customer for their imports, the US, so they might do anything they can to avoid an all out war.

Whether the crazy North Korean leader would listen to them or not, is anybody's guess.

Note: I just read on a BBC report that "China will not protect whoever sunk the South Korean ship" so the North Koreans apparently don't have big brother to watch out for them.

Actually, they are at war and have been in a state of war since the 1950's

I don't think we will see any major battles mainly because of the US presence. North Korea is belligerent but not stupid.

and, of course we are on South Korea's side. We have thousands of troops stationed on the border. If hostilities break out, we will be in the thick of things from the get go.

Not sure but I think we have obligations to be on South's side. I would say that since there nevere was a peace treaty, but only a siece fire......?

No, they won't go to war. Much of what happens next depends on China's response.
