Me toooo!!!! Little black ones & they are all over!! I tried the insecticide for gardens, but it didn't seem to work. A friend of mine told me to mix dawn detergent with water and gently spray the stalks of the flowers, but make sure not to soak the soil. Apparently that is harmless to the plants, but kills insects. This worked for me while treating my ficus bushes for white fly, so I'm gonna try that. Good luck to you!

get rid of the ants - i exploit 1Tablespoon Boric Acid (from first help component to pharmacy) 1Tablespoon sugar and a million/3cup water. you combine that, placed it in some disposable jar lids around the backyard close to the sunflower and placed a pot on real so animals do no longer play around with it. The ants will discover and devour the blend and take it domicile to the nest - that's going to dessicate all the ants interior the nest interior 40 8 hours. i exploit it for indoor and outdoors infestations and that's somewhat effective. only rinse the leftovers down the drain - that's innocuous whilst diluted and poisonous only to ants. that's undemanding and risk-free and extremely effective - that's advisable to maintain it in a sprint jar and re-distribute it now and then as different nests amplify into the section in the experience that your sunflower is that alluring to them - or you may only shop a lid of it obtainable on the factor of the backside, it lasts for weeks.

It's best to use a castile soap (from olives) for spraying on your garden and be sure to rinse your plants with water after spraying. The soap will eat away the insects skeleton and it will die. Since you're dealing with ants, it would probably be best for you to spray their nest and not only the flowers. An alternative to spraying, is sprinkling the affected area with dried or fresh spearmint to deter the ants.

Ants don't eat plants unless they're of the "leaf cutter" variety that harvests leaves to grow fungus they feed on. Ants do collect "honeydew" from aphids that feed on plants. I've murdered plants with soapy water, prefer a more direct kill the critter approach using Spectracide bugstop (doesn't hurt plants, sure death to bugs.)
