I think you are overplaying this win over Turkey. First, Turkey isn't a major Eurpean soccer powerhouse and they never have been. Second, with the exception of a few most of their players play in the Tirkish league which isn't even remotely as competitive of a league as the real powerhouse leagues. These powerhouse leagues are English premier leagues, Spanish liga, Italy Serie A, and the German Bundesliga is starting to come along. Therfore you cannot compare Turkey to the two teams that Mexico lost too as these two teams are England and the Netherlands...both veritable soccer powerhouses and monsters of the European teams. If the U.S. faced these two teams, then they would have lost too and there is no doubt. For heaven's sake, they lost poorly to the Czech Republic and they aren't a powerhouse either. The powerhouses of Europe are England, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, and Germany. Until you beat these teams you are a nobody. Both the U.S. and Mexico fall into this category. Please don't insult Pele by comparing Dempsey to him and Mexico can beat Gambia, but more likely will tie it.
