the good news is that i now have been quit for over 5 years.. i quit trying to quit alone, and joined a support group.. i attend nicotine anonymous meetings both locally and on line.. on line voice meetings are he as close as your computer, and you can attend while still smoking, before actually attempting a quit.. however you decide to quit good luck, there is simply no wrong way to quit!!

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.

I did quit a year and a half ago but only because I knew I was ready. You have to really want to quit for yourself for it to work. I used Champix to get past the first three weeks then cold turkey. Talk to your doctor about using medications though because they may not be right for you. I also found that Champix made me feel very cranky and nauseous so after three weeks I stopped taking it. I was a smoker for 15 years and had tried to quit at least 20 or so times in that span so keep trying and trust me, you will know when its time for you to stop smoking. You'll lose the pleasure for it. Keep your hands and mouth busy and keep occupied with work or hobbies at all times! Good luck.

I quit smoking(cold turkey) the moment I found out I was pregnant back in Feb of 08. I had the hardest time trying to get the thought of cigarettes out of my head, but it was worth it! You should try to pick up a new habit. I had a friend that started chew gum and another that also started jogging. It worked for both of them, but the craving never really goes away. It's always a little nagging thought at the back of my mind! Anyway, good luck.
