Fill power and thread count make a good down comforter. You don't need a heavy comforter in the desert so I'd spend more money on a higher thread count. It will keep the down in and be softer and more luxurious.

Thread count is the material it's made of, the higher the thread count the better the material and the longer it will last. Also the more expensive it is. Some materials you can see through with the low thread counts.
