How long until Effexor XR kicks in?

My DR switched me from Lexapro to Effexor XR 150 MG. How long does it usually take to start working? I'm taking it for severe anxiety and slight depression. I've been taking it for about a week so far.

Update:

Thanks for the info about the withdrawals. I looked into it and I think I can handle it. I'm so crazed with anxiety right now, its destroying my life. So if this helps, it will be marvelous. I'll have to deal with the w/d when its time to get off it.

yeah, try to be patient, it might take up to 6 weeks to kick in, you'll be alright though...hang in there ;)

when you go off, just make sure you are weaned off, do not ever go cold-turkey!

When I was prescribed Effexor XR, my psychiatrist told me that it would take between 4-6 weeks before I started feeling a difference. I took Effexor XR 300 Mg's a day for about 8 months, and that medication is the worst medication that I have ever taken in my entire life. The medication helps during the treatment but the withdrawals are beyond horrible and unbearable. I would rather jump off a cliff or do anything other than suffer the withdrawals from Effexor. It's a good medication but just make sure that when you stop it, that you do so under doctor's orders

I would think a couple of weeks but you need to ask your doctor. Weekly counseling/therapy will help tremendously while finding the best medication and sharing with them exactly how you are feeling, ( which you may already be doing).

It should actually take about 2 and a half weeks.
