I'm a veteran wrestler that has also transitioned into BJJ and MMA with 15yrs grappling expierience.

The outside step double works on beginners, but ANY trained grappler will be able to take advantage of your mistake, whether he's a wrestler, BJJ player, or MMA fighter. First and foremost, when you step to the outside, you give your opponent room to make you miss.

Secondly, the double leg and lift takedown is a power move. You need your feet UNDER your opponent's center in order to lift them. Stepping to the outside (the single leg technique), almost guarantees that you'll miss the double, so why not just shoot the snatch single in the first place? Saves everybody time and saves you from wasting energy and shredding your shoulders. When you step in for a shot, your power is centered between your planted foot and your rearward knee, when you step to the outside, you ARE NOT moving your power under your opponent, so you almost guarantee that you will not be able to lift them from that position without wasting time repositioning on your knees.

From a wrestler's standpoint, if you shoot outside, I'm going to side sprawl, drive my hips into your face, throw on either a cross face, front headlock, or front 3/4, and take your back. With your plant leg to the OUTSIDE, I can easily shift my weight off of your strength, and drive your head into the mat, forcing you to give up your near arm control to post on the mat. Yes, you still MIGHT have a grip with your outside arm, but I can easily break that with the front headlock or 3/4. Worst case scenario for me is that I have to heist a few times and wizzer that arm to break you down all the way. Or, alternatively, I can use my hip pressure to connect your shoulder to your knee, and slap on a far side cradle, then dive in the hole-IN THE DIRECTION YOU'RE TRYING TO LIFT ME-and end up getting 5 points for takedown plus back points.

From a BJJ stand point, when you step to the outside, you openly offer me the full guard. When you step inside, you give yourself the option of taking either side control or AT WORST ending up in half guard. If you outside step, you are PRAYING to end up in half guard, but more likely will get pulled down into your opponent's guard. So yeah, you get a takedown, but NO, you don't end up in control. Or, like the wrestler, the BJJ player can transition to your back. Also, the BJJ player has the option to slap on a front headlock/lion choke/peruvian necktie.

The MMA player has any of the wrestling or BJJ options, plus they have the option to strike. So as you step in to the outside, I'm going to see an opening for a thai knee, or an angle kick as you shoot in, or even if I miss your shot, I'm going to sprawl down and start pounding hammer fists into the side of your face. Which, if you've never been hit by a hammer fist, there isn't much padding on the side of MMA gloves.

For ANY leg takedown, your head follows your plant foot, so as you STEP to the outside, your HEAD GOES TO THE OUTSIDE, otherwise you'll have no strength for the lift. As your head goes outside, a wrestler is going to rip it off with a cross face or front headlock and a BJJ player is going to slap on a guillotine or peruvian necktie, the MMA player has any of the above options plus hammer fisting your ear and eye as they sprawl down and out and take your back. Any way you cut it, you lose.

Well we have the same name! Lol, well I did cheerleading when I was very young, still in elementary school in fact, but I never did competition cheering. Therefore, I never had to do any outrageous stunts or anything of the sort. In since you want to do competition cheering, I can tell you it's very intense and work intensive. The coaches tend to be very strict and there are lots of practices and competitions. I would recommend taking gymnastics first, as you said yourself, and at least learning how to do back and front flips, cartwheels, etc. Also if you've never cheered on any kind of squad before, I would recommend starting out with just a standard cheering squad. Most places have local cheer squads for girls up to age 14 or 15 that require no tryouts. If you're older than 14 or 15 and can no longer join these types of squads, try out for your school cheer squad. If you think you need practice for this, focus on gymnastics and stretching and practicing your routine. Work your way up, because starting out right away with cheering competition would be quite a jump and difficult. Good luck Hun! :)
