what is this red mosquito/ant/wasp thing?
it was in my room and i went to kill it, it got away so i put my pants on and walked out...but it was in my pants and stung me! i caught it and took a pic. im in san diego and cant find the right bug, some were close but not the right one...
its red with wings like a mosquito and has a thin, sharp stinger and a long thin body with the head of a praying mantis and black alien-shaped eyes. it looks close to a harvest ant. i have a link i wanted to post with the pic of it but my question wasnt being posted, so i removed the link and im hoping to put it in the "add details" part and hope it works...
i added the pic on flickr. hope this works...http://www.flickr.com/photos/25264044@N06/46626818...

I agree that it's an ichneumon.
Google images for
ichneumon wasp
and you'll see a couple of pictures of your guy, but less smashed.

Hey first of all let me congratulate you on enclosing a picture to your question. A lot of people here just give a poor description to their question.
Ok, I can def tell you that it´s
Phylum Arthropoda
Class Insecta
Order Hymenoptera
Family Ichneumonidae (?)
See how it has 4 wings? and a very teeny tiny waist?? Well those are basic characteristics of Hymenoptera.
I think it belongs to the family Ichneumonidae, but I would have to take a closer look at its wings to determine that.
Hope this helps.
