What are your feelings of the almost perfect game by Armando Gallaraga?

That was not a bad call by Jim Joyce, that was the worst call I have ever seen. Armando Galarraga was robbed of a feeling that only twenty other people in the history of baseball have felt. This should have been the third perfect game within the last month. I am sure that Armando Galarraga will have another chance at pitching a perfect game though. Armando Galarraga only had one three-ball pitch count and seventy-six percent of the pitches that Armando Galarraga threw were strikes. It is one thing that Jim Joyce made a bad call, but on the final out of what should have been a perfect game is unacceptable. I would expect this bad of a call by a rookie umpire, not by a veteran umpire with twenty-two years of experience. At least Jim Joyce acknowledged the fact that he had missed the call and apologized. I think that the MLB should seriously look into changing the rules of instant replays.

  • Okay. I've got one thing to say for this. I was watching the Cardinals/Reds game after that game, and in case none of you were, they called up Curt Schilling to give his opinion on the matter. Curt defended Joyce. Of course, Curt didn't say that the runner was safe, but he says that he can understand. He feels sorry for Joyce (as everyone actually should), because now his 22 year umpiring career is in the toilet. Schilling commented that he has massive respect for Joyce, and places him in the top 3 of the best umpires of the time.

And honestly, you have to wonder just how nerve racking a call like that would be. Of course, the players themselves would be under enormous stress, but it would make sense that the umpires are under even more stress, seeing as one single call by them can drastically change the course of an entire game, even a season. If you were Jim Joyce, do you not think that there is the slightest possibility that you would have felt overwhelmed by the entire situation? He knows he made the wrong call. He's going to be haunted by that for the rest of his life. Give him a break.

I'm not saying it's right, or fair. The kid should have had a perfect game. You know it, I know it, Jim Joyce knows it, everyone knows it. End of story. But again, life isn't fair. I'd love to say that Galarraga will get over it, but honestly, I doubt he ever will.

This is bull crap and i'm not even a tigers fan. Tigers fans must feel 10x worse than I feel. I feel bad for Gallaraga....I was looking forward to watching the 21st perfect game thrown but wow an ump blows the call to ruin it. Hell of a catch by Austin Jackson. I loved how Jim Leyland and Miguel Cabrera gave that ump hell for that call.

I'm pissed off.I'm not a Tigers fan,i'm just mad the guy got robbed from going into history for a perfect game.I mean,it can't be changed now.

I hope the umpire gets fired personally. It was a HUGE mistake on his part.

Also just want to add in that Gallarraga has a good attitude..you could see his facial expression he still had a smile on his face, but inside he was just shot down...I know most pitchers would have gone crazy in that situation.

Best of wishes to Gallarraga ..hes a hell of a player .

Its really sad, I know if that happened to my team I would be angry, and if I was Gallaraga, I would be devistated, but the ump made a bad call, it happens, just sad that it had to happen in that momment, but in my eyes its a perfect game, and good luck to this kid in the future

No. In a suited recreation, no one can attain base wisely. The leadoff guy interior the 1st reached first base wisely. this is nevertheless a no-hitter because of fact the play could be scored E5 (errors made with the aid of the 0.33 baseman), with the out being a 9-6 (splendid fielder retrieved the ball and threw to the shortstop, who tagged the runner out).

Terrible call. Not even a terrible call. It was an absolutely positively rotten call. This is EXACTLY why MLB needs to bring in instant replay. If there was replay, he would've gotten that perfect game. It takes a heartless old fool to not feel bad for Gallaraga.

I'm so sick about it. I feel so bad for detroit fans, and mostly armando gallaraga. He was robbed out of the greatest feeling a pitcher can have. It wasn't even close. It literally ruined my entire night. I feel so awful for him!! and i'm not even a Tigers fan.

I'm a Twins fan, but I feel really bad for your team. Perfect games are extremely hard to come by, and the umpire just threw it out his ***.
