The difference between having sex and making love?

I have argued about this with my friends (males) and they think it is the one and the same. I say it is entirely different. Sex is sex. Making love may include sex however as far as I'm concerned that can include just putting your arm around your girlfriend and falling asleep together, Even a small peck on the cheek and a reassuring hug to me is a form of making love.

What do you think?.

Update:

Perhaps I should have rephrased the question. I have no problem with the animalistic type of this. I enjoy that, however after, I love to hold on to her!.

I agree with you. Sex can be just sex with no love involved. Making love is so much more than just a sex act, it's what is going on in the lover's minds and how they are communicating love to each other without words, but with touch.

Sex is something you do just for fun. You don't necessarily have to be in a long-term relationship with the person. You don't really spend very much time kissing or hugging, and it's usually over with pretty fast. Making love is when you care more about the feelings of the other person, and you want to make it last as long as possible, so you try to take your time. There's lots of slow, deep kissing. You genuinely care about each other. You'll probably fall asleep in each others arms. :-)

It's completely different. And personally, I don't really like sex 'cause all I can do is pound away at her. I prefer kissing her all over her body, and being kissed all over mine. Making love involves a deeper connection. It's an expression of love. We show each other that we care about the other person's happiness. I don't really care about a girl I'm just having sex with. I just want to get my nut off.

This is easily expressed in formulaic terms:

    1. Detached Male + Detached Female = Sex.

    2. Attached Male + Detached Female = Sex.

    3. Detached Male + Attached Female = Sex.

    4. Attached Male + Attached Female = <3.

I could get into homosexual circumstances, but I think you all get the point.

There's an absolute difference. Having sex is just about the animal lust you feel towards another person. There's very little concern except for pleasing yourself. When you make love you connect with your lover so deeply. You move as one, things slow down, you look at each other and nothing else matters. Whenever I was making love with my girl, I focused on her, completely. Our kisses got deeper, we held each other tighter, we looked more deeply into each other's eyes than ever before.

Sex blows your load. Making love blows your mind.

I think sex is just sex. Its there for pleasure. However, making love is the ultimate act of love between a man and a woman. I had sex plenty of times, but the first time I made love i felt my love for my girlfriend expand. Its definitely something else.

Sex is more mechanical. You're getting off and using another partner to do it.

Making love, to me, is sex bit with some feeling behind it. You kiss, you hold onto each other and enjoy the closeness you feel with your partner.

I think cuddling and sweet kisses are just plain lovin', which is always good in and of itself.

I have to agree with you on that one. Sex is just the act. Animals have sex, but they don't make love. Only humans can do that. You can only make love when you are IN love with someone. You just feel it. Sounds like your male friends just haven't been in love yet. Someday they'll figure it out.

Making love to me is sex, but focused more on the emotional aspect. Sex is more about just the physical aspect.
